Chapter 1: Humble Beginnings

I was born in Gauteng, Johannesburg — a place of energy, hustle, and survival. But behind the noise of the city was a quiet township life where I learned early on what it means to go without, to make a plan, and to carry strength even when life felt heavy.

My family was not wealthy, but we managed. We made do with what we had. There were no luxuries, just the basics — and sometimes, not even those. Food was not always guaranteed, and getting new clothes was a rare moment worth celebrating. But through it all, there was love. There was always the belief that we could make it, somehow, together.

We grew up in the township — a place that teaches you how to be tough, how to be alert, and how to be grateful for even the smallest joys. The streets were loud, sometimes dangerous, but they were also full of life. Kids playing with homemade wire cars, the smell of pap and chakalaka from neighbours’ homes, and music playing from someone’s radio in the distance.

Life was hard, I won’t lie. There were only a few happy times I can remember — moments that stood out like light in the dark. But even in those difficult days, something was being built inside me. A quiet fire. A resilience. A determination that said: I may have started here, but I won't end here.
