MEC for Health and Wellness, , visiting Empumelelo Ext 4 in Devon as part of the Department’s Outreach Programme, reaffirming government’s commitment to taking quality healthcare services directly to communities and ensuring residents have access to essential healthcare closer to where they live.
During the outreach, 125 residents were screened for hypertension and 124 for diabetes, with two individuals referred for further management of elevated blood pressure. HIV Testing Services were provided to 70 community members, while 10 people accessed PrEP for HIV prevention. The programme also delivered oral health services to 41 residents, family planning services to 8 clients, and deworming and Vitamin A supplementation to 28 children.
In addition, 5 people were screened for tuberculosis with sputum samples collected for testing, and more than 20 community members received SASSA-related assistance. Substance abuse awareness and support services were also provided by to 60 residents, highlighting the Department’s integrated approach to improving health and social wellbeing.
