An X-ray is not just a picture — positioning matters.

The angle of the image, the body part being examined and the way you are positioned all help the radiographer capture the views requested by your referring healthcare provider.

That is why you may be asked to stand, sit, lie down or turn slightly during the examination.

Small changes in position can make a big difference to the information captured.

Follow the radiographer’s instructions and ask questions if anything is unclear.

What if getting an X-ray did not have to feel like another hurdle?

Open Diagnostics was created to make diagnostic X-rays more affordable and easier to access for the communities we serve.

Patients referred to our centres in Soweto and Alexandra receive professional digital X-ray imaging, with the images reviewed by a specialist radiologist and the report sent electronically to the referring healthcare provider.

Quality diagnostic care should support the next step in your health journey — without adding unnecessary barriers.

Need an X-ray? Ask your healthcare provider about Open Diagnostics.

Spring has arrived and with it, more time outdoors, weekend sport and getting active again.

If a fall, twist or impact leaves you with persistent pain, swelling or difficulty moving, do not simply “walk it off”. Start with a healthcare professional who can assess the injury and decide whether diagnostic imaging is needed.

Open Diagnostics supports the next step when an X-ray is clinically indicated.

Move more. Move safely. Know when to get checked.

Why does the radiographer ask you to keep still?

Movement during an X-ray can make the image appear blurred, which may affect how clearly the area being examined can be seen.
The radiographer may position you carefully, ask you to remain still for a few seconds or give you a simple breathing instruction before the image is captured.

These instructions are not just part of the process — they help support image quality and may reduce the need for an image to be repeated.
Ready. Steady. X-ray.

Care becomes meaningful when it reaches people where they are.

On World Humanitarian Day, we recognise everyone who works to protect health, dignity and wellbeing, especially in communities where access is limited.

Open Diagnostics was created to help close a practical gap in care: bringing high-quality diagnostic X-rays closer to patients in Soweto and Alexandra.

We are proud to advance this purpose alongside SAMDP and its network of healthcare professionals.

Strong referral relationships deserve recognition.

Through the SAMDP and Open Diagnostics Golden Ticket initiative, participating providers who reach the monthly referral target can receive a complimentary diagnostic X-ray to award to a patient who needs support accessing care.

It is a practical way to recognise consistent referrals while helping one more patient move forward in their healthcare journey.

Healthy communities depend on young people who can learn, work, participate and thrive.

On International Youth Day, we recognise the importance of making healthcare understandable and accessible to young people, especially when injury or illness interrupts school, sport or daily life.

Open Diagnostics provides affordable diagnostic X-rays in Soweto and Alexandra, close to the communities young people call home.

Healthcare access supports opportunity.
