❤🇿🇦❤ September is Heart Awareness Month in South Africa ❤🇿🇦❤
A month dedicated to raising awareness about Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) in our country.

🇿🇦 After HIV/Aids, CVD is the leading cause of death in SA, and more South Africans die of CVD each year than all cancers combined.

🇿🇦 215 people die of CVD in SA every single day and 80% of premature CVD-related deaths (younger than the age of 65) can actually be prevented with a healthy diet, regular exercise and no smoking.
Don’t be the 1 in 15 that has a heart attack or a stroke every hour in South Africa!

One year ago, we asked how long your or your loved one’s heart operation was ❤️❤️‍🩹. One of our warriors, Zaid Jooma, shared that his op was 11 hours and 46 minutes long! And after that, his heart was beating and got straight back to working. Isn’t it amazing. Cardiothoracic surgery is one of the only fields in medicine where what we operate on doesn’t have a moment to rest or recover post-op. The heart has to work as soon as the op is done!‼️

Today marks the beginning of Heart Awareness Month in South Africa🫀❤️ 🇿🇦

A month dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease and the lifestyle risk factors linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD).

🇿🇦 In South Africa, CVD is responsible for almost one in six deaths - claiming more lives than all cancers combined.

🇿🇦 Every day, 225 South Africans lose their lives to heart disease and strokes, making it the second leading cause of death in our country.

The good news?❤️ About 80% of heart attacks can be prevented through simple lifestyle changes - eating well, staying active, minimising stress and avoiding to***co.

This year continues with the theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat.” By knowing the facts and sharing them, you can help protect not only your heart but the hearts of those you love. 🫶
