Recapping our “The Child at the Crossroad: Where Medicine, Ethics, and Law Meet” seminar and workshop 👶🩺

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our specialised paediatric workshop and seminar. The evening provided valuable insight into child protection, paediatric practice, and the important role healthcare professionals play in advocating for and caring for vulnerable children. 🧸

A special thank you to Dr Omar and Prof Rosenberg for their engaging presentations on child protection and paediatric practice. And to Prof Dangor and Prof Lala for guiding our Paediatric Basic Life Support workshop, where students had the opportunity to learn and practise CPR and choking management in babies and children. ⭐️

The Wits Students’ Physician Society recently took on the Westcliff Stairs in support of mental health awareness 💚👟

It was an incredible morning filled with movement, conversation, and community as students, friends, and family came together to take steps toward breaking mental health stigmas for both healthcare workers and patients 🩺✨

A special thank you to for joining us and sharing more about the important work they do advocating for patients with ostomies 🤍

The Wits Students’ Physician Society recently visited the Johannesburg Children’s Home for a meaningful day of service, learning, and connection 💙🩺

Alongside helping clean windows around the home, our committee hosted an interactive emergency response workshop where children learned basic lifesaving skills including CPR, the Heimlich manoeuvre, how to use an asthma pump, and what to do during emergencies such as seizures, strokes, and collapse ✨

We also spent time visiting the ECD centre, where committee members read stories to the children and handed out marshmallows, sharing plenty of smiles and laughter along the way 🤍🍡

It was a privilege to spend time with such bright and enthusiastic children while sharing knowledge, kindness, and connection throughout the day.

The PhysSoc committee recently attended a special internal workshop focused on an often overlooked but incredibly important aspect of healthcare, communicating and interacting with children 🧸🩺✨

Led by the inspiring Prof Potterton and Dr Bezuidenhout, the session encouraged us to think more deeply about how healthcare workers engage with paediatric patients. We learnt small changes in communication and the integration of play can make a meaningful difference in a child’s healthcare experience. We hope to take these valuable skills throughout our medical careers 🩺

We also had the opportunity to hear from Dr Ruder, who spoke about developments in child health as well as approaches to better communication and interaction with children. 👧

Thank you to our speakers for such an insightful and valuable workshop. We are excited to continue growing into more compassionate and well-rounded future healthcare professionals.🧑‍⚕️🧸⭐️
