Safety Awareness & Know Your Rights Campaign

The IHPS Waterberg District Advocacy Officer visited Gwenani High School in Mokopane earlier this morning as part of the Safety Awareness and Know Your Rights Campaign, conducted in collaboration with SAPS Waterberg District, Mokopane SAPS, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Youth Crime Prevention (YCP) Mokopane.

The campaign aims to promote safe, inclusive and rights-based school environments by addressing violence, bullying, substance abuse, stigma, discrimination and human rights violations among learners, with particular attention to key and priority populations.

Special emphasis was placed on LGBTQIA+ learners, highlighting the importance of creating schools where every learnerβ€”regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expressionβ€”is respected, protected and treated with dignity.

Together, we continue to advocate for safe schools, informed learners and the protection of human rights for all.

Capacity Building for Inclusive HIV Prevention in Polokwane

The IHPS Social Worker and Waterberg District Advocacy Officer & Acting DIC Manager today facilitated a SOGIESC (S*xual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and S*x Characteristics) sensitisation training for 40 Social Workers from the Limpopo Department of Social Development in Polokwane.

The training focused on understanding SOGIESC within the context of HIV prevention, particularly among Men who have S*x with Men (MSM) and Transgender Populations (TGP), in alignment with the National Strategic Plan for HIV, TB and STIs 2023–2028.

The session highlighted the importance of harm reduction, addressing stigma and discrimination, preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), strengthening human rights, and addressing Human Rights Violations affecting key and priority populations.

Through continued sensitisation and capacity building, we strengthen inclusive, rights-based HIV services and promote dignity, equality and access to healthcare for all.

The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is implementing the My Journey, Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Programme across all four regions of the City of Mbombela, with a dedicated Safe Space in Mganduzweni.

The programme aims to reduce HIV infections among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) aged 15–24 by providing peer education, comprehensive sexuality education, and access to HIV prevention services.

In addition, the programme works to reduce teenage pregnancy through a range of prevention interventions while raising awareness of HIV, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Human Rights. It also offers counselling and support to empower young people to make informed decisions and build healthier, brighter futures.

Together, we are creating safe spaces, promoting knowledge, and empowering young people to thrive.
