What to Expect in Your First Breathwork Journey

Hello sovereign light

Breathwork can be life-changing, but if you’re new, knowing what to expect can help ease your nerves and deepen the experience. Here’s a gentle guide to your first journey.

Before your session, set your intention. This isn’t about forcing results, but creating an inner space. Ask yourself what you’re ready to release or receive. Take the time to create comfort too. Soft lighting, warm blankets, an eye mask, and grounding music all support your nervous system. Make sure you are hydrated, light on food, and have given yourself enough space to relax.

During the session, you may notice tingling, temperature shifts, or emotional release. Trust your body, it knows what to do. You might cry, laugh, sigh, or feel waves of energy. Allow it. This is energy moving and healing releases are happening. Keep returning to your breath and your intention whenever you need grounding. It’s not about breathing fast rather it’s about surrendering into your breath at a rhythm and pace that works for you.

Afterwards, you may feel lighter, clearer, or deeply peaceful. Drink water, journal, or sit quietly. Don’t rush back into the world. Rest is important because this is the integration space that brings it all together. The breath work continues to work long after the session ends.

Your first breath work session is the beginning of something sacred, a return to yourself.

Let’s breathe your first breath-experience together….

Find a comfortable space to sit or lie down. Ensure your body is supported and that you feel safe. Close your eyes if that feels good. Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly. This helps you feel the natural movement of your breath.

Take a slow inhale through your nose allowing your belly to expand first, then your chest. Gently exhale through your mouth for twice as long as your inhale, releasing tension and letting the body soften.

Continue this pattern for as long as you desire, keeping the breath smooth and unforced. If your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back to the feeling of your breath moving through your body. Notice any sensations, emotions, or thoughts that arise. Allow them to be present without judgment. Simply observe and return to your breath.

As you finish, return to a natural breath, placing your hands over your heart. Acknowledge this time to connect with your body and your own capacity for healing. Lay here in this peace as long as you need.

Affirmation: With each breath, I am safe. I am present. I am healing.

With love, light and awakening
