❓ "Is Osteopathy only for back pain?"

Many people associate Osteopathy with back pain, but Osteopaths are trained to assess how the body's muscles, joints and other structures work together as part of overall movement and function.

Osteopathy is a regulated allied health profession in South Africa. Osteopaths conduct a comprehensive assessment that may include a patient's medical history, symptoms, posture, movement and physical examination to help determine an appropriate management plan within their scope of practice.

Depending on an individual's needs, an Osteopath may provide manual treatment, prescribe rehabilitative exercises, offer advice on posture and movement, or refer a patient to another healthcare professional when appropriate.

Understanding when to seek professional healthcare advice supports informed healthcare decisions and may contribute to better musculoskeletal health.

In South Africa, only practitioners registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) may lawfully practise Osteopathy.

The AHPCSA maintains a public register of practitioners who are qualified and authorised to practise regulated allied health professions in South Africa.

In practice we often celebrate the small milestones.

Sleeping through the night again, returning to your usual workouts, turning your neck while driving without pain, or noticing that movement feels a little easier than it did a few weeks ago.

These moments might seem small, but when you’re in pain they can make a big difference to daily life.

This week marks a small milestone for me too, 1 year of running my osteopathic practice! 🎂

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has trusted me with their care and supported the practice over the past year. It’s a privilege to do this work.

Small milestones matter, in practice and in recovery.

🧠💡Learning never stops - even for your osteopath!

As part of our registration, osteopaths must complete continuing professional development (CPD) every year. This ensures we stay up to date with the latest knowledge, techniques and research to give you the best possible care.

👩🏻‍⚕️For August, my CPD included:
• An online workshop titled ‘Inside-Out Healing: Exploring the Gut-Brain-Inflammation Pathway’
• A webinar discussing ‘Shoulder arthroplasty - a surgeon’s view’
• A National Women’s Day webinar ‘The Hormone Body Connection: Knowledge is Power’
• A wonderful in-person event exploring ‘The Future of Women’s Health is Holistic’, accompanied by a brunch to celebrate the end of Women’s Month in South Africa!

That means:
✔️ Every course I attend
✔️ Every workshop I take part in
✔️ Every new study I read
…is really for YOU.

How does this help you?
✨Your health is supported with the best available knowledge
✨You receive care that evolves as research evolves
✨You can feel reassured you’re in safe hands

Because your wellbeing deserves nothing less than continuous learning🌱
