We got our vestibular input this weekend!

Did you know that out vestibular sense (one of our hidden movement senses) are responsible for:

- arousal and level of alertness
- balance and equilibrium
- guiding movement in all planes
- maintaining a stable visual field during movement
- and so much more!

This topic has been on my mind all week and I really feel that there is a "shift" coming! Just this week I saw commited to have a cellphone free school next year. This makes me so excited! I truelly believe with all my heart that this will 1- improve mental health of learners (less social media pressure) 2- decrease bulling (specifically ciber bully) and 3- improve social communication.

Critics of the ban have voiced some potential unforeseen consequences.

Shjoe.. I don't know about you, but this past 2 weeks all I have been doing is trying to regulate children (including my own 🤪).

This time of the year can be very challenging for children (and adults) for various reasons:

- we feel tired and burnt out after working very hard during the year
- change of routine and expectations at school/work makes us feel the day is unpredictable and more chaotic
- concert practice can be quite overstimulating for the child with a more sensitive or easily dysregulated sensory system.
- our diets change a little to include more sugar, artificiall colourants and processed food.
- it is hot!
- stress about the holidays (this is a thing!)

Please be a bit more empathetic and remember to support your child by also focussing on your own regulation. Keeping calm when your child is having a meltdown really is key to calming the end of the year storm. Check this very accurate illustration!
