Doctors work for you. I don't know why this is so hard for people to accept, but it is.

You walk in there and suddenly you forget that you're the one paying for the appointment. You nod along. You don't ask questions. You do what you're told because they went to medical school and you didn't.

Stop doing that.

You live in your body. You know what you're experiencing. You know how treatments make you feel. That matters. Your voice in your own care is at least as important as theirs... even when you feel totally over your head.

A good doctor is your partner. They explain things. They welcome questions. They give you real informed consent... not just a form to sign, an actual conversation. They respect your right to say no.

If your doctor makes you feel stupid for asking questions, dismisses your concerns, or tries to bully you into something... fire them. Seriously. You are allowed to do that.

You don't have to see a doctor at all if you don't want to. And if you do, you don't have to do everything they say. You can ask questions. You can get a second opinion. You can say no.

No is a complete sentence. You don't have to justify it to anyone.
