Winter has a way of slowing us down.

If you're feeling unwell, staying home isn't just looking after yourself. It's looking after your colleagues, your neighbours, your grandparents and the little ones who may be more vulnerable. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is give our bodies the time they need to recover.

A few simple habits can make a big difference this winter:

• Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
• Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
• Open windows where possible to keep fresh air circulating.
• Stay well hydrated, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Eat nourishing meals and get enough sleep to help your immune system.
• If you have flu-like symptoms, rest at home until you're feeling better.
• If you're older, pregnant, have a chronic illness or your symptoms become severe or you're struggling to breathe, seek medical advice promptly.
