Started from a caravan, moved into Mall of Thembisa, built through COVID, created employment and training opportunities, developed products, moved into medical aesthetics, built industry initiatives, and now we’re working on financing/access mechanisms.

The Blend Wellness is building township-born wellness infrastructure — taking professional skin, beauty and wellness services that have traditionally been concentrated in affluent markets and making them accessible, credible and aspirational within the township economy.

The Blend Wellness was proud to showcase at the 10th Annual EmpowaWomen Leadership Summit by EmpowaWorx, through the Absa beneficiary programme — in a room built around leadership, enterprise, access and women shaping the economy.

For me, this is what growth looks like: when support moves beyond conversation and creates real access to markets, networks and visibility.

We are building a beauty and wellness business from the township with the ambition, infrastructure and standard to compete far beyond it.

Thank you, Absa and EmpowaWorx, for making room for businesses like ours to be seen, connected and positioned for what comes next.

We’re not asking for a seat at the table. We’re building businesses that belong there.

Did you know… Nomsa actually knows The Blend Wellness better than I do? 😂🤎

We were playing a “Did You Know?” game — sharing random facts about The Blend Wellness — and somehow I ran out of facts before she did. She won. 😂

But I think that says a lot about the six months we spent together.

Nomsa came to us through YES Youth’s Youth at Work programme. She came all the way from Alex, had to relocate sites, and she wasn’t even from a beauty therapy background. But she was curious. She was committed. And she genuinely wanted to learn.

And that is one thing I will always have time for: a young person who is hungry for an opportunity.

Over the years, The Blend Wellness has opened its doors to final-year beauty students, interns and young people from different institutions and programmes. They know before they arrive that this is a working business, inside a township mall, with real clients, real expectations and real standards.

I may not be a huge corporation with unlimited resources, but I’ve always believed that you don’t have to wait until you have millions before you can contribute to someone’s development.

You give what you can, with what you have.

Nomsa wasn’t just another person completing six months at the spa. She became part of The Blend. She understood what we were building. She contributed to it. She learnt from us — and we learnt from her too.

That’s the kind of exchange I love.

If a young person walks through these doors willing to learn, my responsibility is that they should leave better than they came — more skilled, more exposed, more confident and with a clearer understanding of the working world.

And Nomsa? She left her own little footprint here. 🤎

I had an amazing six months with you, Nomsa. Thank you for showing up, for being teachable, for caring about the brand and, apparently, for knowing far too many facts about my own business. 😂

This is also what The Blend Wellness was built for.
