How much do you really know about breast cancer? ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Between the family WhatsApp group and 'something I read somewhere', there are plenty of myths doing the rounds, and some of them stop people from getting checked when they should.

Swipe through to separate the myths from the facts. Did you know that men can get breast cancer too? Or that most people who are diagnosed have no family history of the disease? And while most breast lumps are not cancer, every lump should still be checked by a healthcare professional.

Please share this with the people you care about โ€“ you never know who needs to see it today. If you notice any change in your breasts, don't wait. Speak to your doctor or clinic. ๐Ÿงก

Quick question: when last did you do a breast self-check? ๐Ÿค” (No judgement โ€“ we know how long the to-do list is.) It takes about five minutes, once a month, and it's one of the simplest ways to get to know your body.

Swipe through for the three steps: look in the mirror for any changes in shape, size or skin, feel the whole breast using the flat pads of your fingers, and remember to check your armpits and up to your collarbone too. Choose a regular time each month โ€“ a few days after your period ends is ideal, or the same date every month if you no longer have periods โ€“ so that you can learn what's normal for you. ๐Ÿซถ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Remember, a self-check doesn't replace a clinical breast exam or a mammogram. If you notice anything new or unusual, speak to your doctor or clinic sister. Save this post so you have it handy next month!

It's Global Handwashing Day! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿงผ Yes, there really is a day for everything โ€“ but this one has earned its spot on the calendar.

Washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds is still one of the simplest ways to stop germs from spreading through your home, school and workplace. It sounds small, but it really does make a difference โ€“ especially with little ones in the house.

A quick reminder of when it matters most: before eating or preparing food, after using the bathroom, when you get home, and whenever someone in the family is feeling under the weather. Teach the kids to sing 'Happy Birthday' twice while they scrub and they'll get to 20 seconds every time (we can't promise it will be in tune ๐Ÿ˜‰).

๐Ÿ‘‰ Running low on hand wash or sanitiser? Pop in to your nearest The Local Choice Pharmacy! We're here for you. ๐Ÿซถ

๐Ÿšจ Could you be at risk of a stroke and not know it?

Your blood pressure, heart rhythm and artery health can provide important clues about your stroke risk. In fact, atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm condition, can increase your risk of an ischaemic stroke by up to five times.

๐Ÿ‘‰ For October 2026, for just R75, participating The Local Choice Pharmacies are partnering up with Rossmax to screen for stroke risk. Come in for a stroke assessment today.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

We're quick to notice a cough or a fever, but the signs that our minds need care are much easier to miss: trouble sleeping, feeling withdrawn, constant exhaustion, or losing interest in the things you usually enjoy.

Life is busy, and it's easy to push through and tell yourself that you're just tired. But if these feelings have been hanging around for a while, they deserve your attention โ€“ just like any other symptom would. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿซถ

๐Ÿ‘‰ If this sounds like you or someone you love, please reach out. Talk to someone you trust, chat to your pharmacist or doctor, or call SADAG's 24-hour helpline toll-free on 0800 567 567. You don't have to carry it alone.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month โ€“ a reminder for all of us to slow down and check in with our bodies. ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

Breast cancer is easier to treat when it's found early, and early detection starts with knowing what's normal for you. When you know your body, you're far more likely to notice when something changes.

Over the coming weeks, look out for our step-by-step self-check guide, the myths that are worth forgetting and a few ways to support a loved one who is going through treatment. Share this with the women in your life, and remember that you're always welcome to pop in with your questions. ๐Ÿงก
