We launched our new KEYLESS Lockers on Central Beach in Plett this morning. Members of Plett's tourism industry were present to view the new lockers and get first-hand information from Malcolm Katz, Director of Liberty Lockers.
Malcolm thanked the crowd for attending and gave special thanks to representatives from Bitou Municipality (Johnny Prins, Ryan Kova, and members of Bitou Communications Department and Local Economic Development) and Plett Tourism (Patty Butterworth) who have been so supportive throughout the entire process. Michael Kruger, who developed the system with Malcolm, installed the electronics and handled the programming, was also in attendance.
After a brief rundown of the main features (like the new online payment system, PIN code & keypad locking and charging ports inside each locker) Malcolm gave a personal demonstration to individuals. This involved going through the online booking and payment process, receiving the PIN code by SMS and opening the locker using the PIN via the keypad. He also demonstrated how one can change the PIN code to something more memorable if desired.
The beach lockers are eco-friendly, built from recyclable materials, powered by solar panels, and once removed they leave no trace of having been there as they are modular and are not built on a concrete base.
The lockers will soon have signs displayed on the outside, complete with instructions for purchasing and use of the system.
Liberty Lockers extends thanks again to all who attended and supported them throughout the development process.
The daily rate for rental is R35/day.
