There’s a lot more history behind BIOFLEX than you might think.

The story actually began with an injury.

In the late 1980s, vascular surgeon Dr. Fred Kahn tore his rotator cuff while skiing in Switzerland. Rather than going straight down the surgical route, he tried an early form of laser therapy and the results completely changed his thinking.

That experience led him to start researching how light could be used to support the body’s natural healing process.

In 1989, he founded Meditech International in Toronto, Canada. Over the following years, he worked with researchers, engineers and medical professionals to develop what would become the BIOFLEX Laser Therapy system.

The first BIOFLEX Professional systems were released in 1999.

Fast forward more than 35 years, and BIOFLEX technology is now used by healthcare professionals in 50+ countries around the world — from physiotherapists, chiropractors and doctors to sports medicine teams and elite athletes.

When it comes to joint pain, not all light therapy is the same.

BIOFLEX Laser Therapy uses specific red and near-infrared wavelengths, delivered at controlled doses and frequencies, to target the affected area and support the body’s natural recovery processes. The professional BIOFLEX system combines large treatment arrays with a focused infrared laser probe, allowing treatment to be tailored to the depth and location of the problem.

So how is that different from simply using a red light panel at home?

While red light therapy can be useful for more general wellness and recovery, BIOFLEX is a clinical photobiomodulation treatment designed around specific wavelengths, energy levels, treatment times and protocols. “Just do it.

In November 2023, after receiving a spinal during the birth of my son, I experienced a sudden fright and je**ed unexpectedly.

What followed was persistent nerve pain in my back that impacted many aspects of my daily life.

Sleeping became uncomfortable and even sitting in certain positions was painful.

One of the most difficult parts was not being able to do something so simple yet deeply meaningful - lifting my children on my feet and playing that “aeroplane” game my own parents used to do with me.

After approximately 11-12 sessions of Bioflex Laser therapy with an exceptional team, Demi and Diane, the pain gone!

This week, for the first time since my injury, I was able to do it again, without pain or hesitation.

It was a moment I truly thought I had lost and one that meant more to me than I can fully express.

I understand that treatments like this may raise questions, particularly because they are non-invasive and not widely known.

However, I chose to trust the process and I am incredibly grateful that I did.

Meet the heart behind Bioflex Plett 💙

Every business has a story, and ours started with Diane.

A few years ago, Diane was struggling with ongoing back pain. She'd heard about Bioflex Laser Therapy in Cape Town and decided to give it a try.

After experiencing it for herself, she couldn't stop thinking...

"Why don't we have this in Plett?"

That one question changed everything.

Instead of wishing someone else would bring Bioflex here, Diane decided to do it herself. She imported a Bioflex system from Canada, spent countless hours doing training and listening to seminars and then opened the very first Bioflex clinic in Plettenberg Bay.
