International Day of Yoga – 20th June 2025
You are warmly invited to join us on Saturday, 20th June from 09h00 to 11h00 at 58A van Boeschoten Street for a special celebration of International Day of Yoga.
Significance of International Day of Yoga
Every year on 21 June, the world comes together to celebrate International Day of Yoga. This day recognises yoga as a powerful tool for holistic well-being.
Yoga is far more than physical exercise. It is an ancient Indian discipline that unites body, mind, and spirit. On this day, people across cultures and continents practise yoga to promote:
• Physical health and flexibility
• Mental clarity and stress reduction
• Emotional balance
• Inner peace and harmony
The theme of the day reminds us that yoga offers simple, accessible practices that can help humanity navigate the challenges of modern life with greater calm, resilience, and connection.
Why 108 Surya Namaskars?
During our session, we will be flowing through 108 Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations). This is a traditional practice with deep spiritual and symbolic meaning:
• The number 108 is considered sacred in many ancient traditions, especially in Hinduism, Buddhism, and yoga. It is believed to represent the wholeness of existence.
• There are 108 beads on a traditional mala (prayer beads),
• Mathematically, 108 is the product of 9 × 12 (9 planets × 12 zodiac signs), symbolising the entire universe.
• Physically and energetically, completing 108 rounds is a moving meditation that builds strength, stamina, and focus while honouring the sun – the source of life and energy.
It is both a challenging physical practice and a profound spiritual offering — a way to purify the body, calm the mind, and express gratitude.
Come as you are. All levels are welcome. Bring a yoga mat if you have one, wear comfortable clothing, and prepare to move, breathe, and celebrate with us.
We look forward to sharing this beautiful practice together!
Namaste 🙏
