Introducing Heather
We thought that the best way to introduce Heather, who is our receptionist, was simply to use this quote, from one of her colleagues...
"Heather is kind, compassionate, caring and a child of God. She’s a mom of two and a grandmother of four. Her eyes tell you the kindness within and a heart of gold. Nothing is too much for Heather and she gives freely of herself and never forgets kindness. She is the most kind person I’ve ever met and I’m blessed that she came into my life as she taught me to be humble."

Lucky guess
Our practice took a corporate table at the annual Port Alfred Soup Kitchen Quiz night fundraiser, hosted by The Announcer and MyPond Hotel. The evening was well attended, full of laughter and cerebrally challenging. After a slow start, our team name came good and we snuck up to second place :)

Back in stock
Jenny's tablets, with Boswelia extract, have been out of stock for months, partly due to the war in Iran. They are, at last, back in stock! If your joints are aching, hobble in to get a new supply from the first batch!

We've introduced her before, but as we're revisiting introductions, here's our very own Dr Ruth.
Let's bust some Dr Ruth myths...
1. She may look young, but she's not a student or an intern... She's a fully-qualified doctor with a cm laude degree from Stellenbosch. She did her internship at Victoria Hospital in Cape Town and community service in Mpumalanga before coming to us. The feedback from patients who've seen her is universally excellent.
2. She's not a locum... She's with us full time. She hasn't committed to being here for her whole life, but we encourage you to build relationship and ask for her directly.
3. Despite not having a green finger on her body, her life’s dream is actually to live on a farm.
4. Although old age is your “second childhood”, the two ends of the spectrum, are not the same afterall. She has a Diploma in Child Health, but is realising she might need one in geriatric medicine if she keeps working in Port Alfred!

Our efforts to create a welcoming, caring, home-like environment sometimes moves people to the point they bring us a thank you present. We will never accept gifts as an inducement (and obviously aren't expecting any!) but the other day's just-because cake was most heartily enjoyed by all. Working as a team is such fun. Thank you for "seeing us" Donne.

Meet the team: Usisipho
Usi's official title is "Office Assistant". She's our multi-tasker, doing everything from keeping the practice clean, to answering the phone if someone's away, assisting with billing, or helping apply a plaster cast! Away from work you'll find her enjoying her new-found love for running, as she builds towards her 25th parkrun, and a 10km in October!

Meet the team: Margaret
Our team has grown substantially over the nearly 3 years we've been operational, so we thought another round of introductions in order... Queen Margaret is the Practice Manager. She juggles keeping everyone on their toes, managing the accounts, troubleshooting complicated phone calls and bringing laughter and fun, all while simultaneously keeping us updated with her beloved Marley's latest adventures at the vet.

Knee-capped! Wednesday night: a fracture, Thursday night: a dislocation. Emergencies don't keep office hours!
They say things come in threes, so look after your knees! This week's curious coincidence of consecutive knee injuries highlighted the importance of accessible medical care that's available after hours!

It's a tiny gesture, but we figure the more voices added to the cry for women to be able to live free from abuse and violence, the better. This week we are in pink and purple to draw attention to the scourge of GBV, and our tree is too!

Feeling at home
We get lots of comments about the homely feel of our practice, from the waiting room lounge, to the (under-used) swimming pool.
And of course the deck - we loved this pic (used with permission), and it's humanity, despite the need for medical care.
