Crazy socks, meaningful cause! ✨

The team at Jacqueline Schoeman Speech Therapists proudly took part in Socks for Docs Day to raise awareness for mental health in healthcare.

Fun Friday!!
Jacqueline is currently hard at work populating our new, big AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) board at the practice with a ROBUST vocabulary!

Robust vocabulary = comprehensive language system! We never want to get stuck at requesting basic needs.

For much too long, there was a belief that AAC users had to show "communication readiness" or master single picture use before gaining access to a robust system.

However, research shows that there are no prerequisites for robust AAC. Also, how can you model a language with just a few, set words?

If the goal is a rich, flexible language system that allows the user to say whatever they want, whenever they want.... it means this board will never be done! 🥳🎉

Child Protection Week – Day 1

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and protected.

The "Go Turquoise for the Elderly" campaign is a South African initiative running from May 15 to June 15 to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and the needs of senior citizens, particularly those outside of formal care.

Today we stand in support of our elderly community — honouring their wisdom, their stories, and their right to dignity and care.

Let’s continue to create spaces where our elders feel seen, respected, and connected. Wear turquoise, start conversations, and show your support.
