Can wellbeing initiatives really outperform an unhealthy work environment?
We can have a much wellness days, introduce employee assistance programs and preach burn out to balance everyday!! but if things like victimization, nepotism, poor leadership, lack of support and unrealistic workloads still exist...The above initiatives may start to feel more like compliance the a genuine attempt at creating psychological safety without jeopardizing productivity.
Maybe we need to stop asking how do we create resilient employees and ask what's happening in the system that requires resilience..all the time.
Employee wellbeing is a systematic issue it doesn't stop with providing counseling.
This means addressing institutional issues like poor leadership, high workloads, communication styles, continuous improvement techniques and conflict resolution.
The goal shouldn't be to teach resilience inorder to function in unhealthy work environments, it should be to create spaces where employees are psychologically safe, even in high pace work environments.
