How much do you really know about breast cancer? 🤔🎗️ Between the family WhatsApp group and 'something I read somewhere', there are plenty of myths doing the rounds, and some of them stop people from getting checked when they should.

Swipe through to separate the myths from the facts. Did you know that men can get breast cancer too? Or that most people who are diagnosed have no family history of the disease? And while most breast lumps are not cancer, every lump should still be checked by a healthcare professional.

Please share this with the people you care about – you never know who needs to see it today. If you notice any change in your breasts, don't wait. Speak to your doctor or clinic. 🧡

Quick question: when last did you do a breast self-check? 🤔 (No judgement – we know how long the to-do list is.) It takes about five minutes, once a month, and it's one of the simplest ways to get to know your body.

Swipe through for the three steps: look in the mirror for any changes in shape, size or skin, feel the whole breast using the flat pads of your fingers, and remember to check your armpits and up to your collarbone too. Choose a regular time each month – a few days after your period ends is ideal, or the same date every month if you no longer have periods – so that you can learn what's normal for you. 🫶

👉 Remember, a self-check doesn't replace a clinical breast exam or a mammogram. If you notice anything new or unusual, speak to your doctor or clinic sister. Save this post so you have it handy next month!

💊 DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION FOR THE CONTRACEPTIVE PILL? 🤔💚🧡

Did you know that not all birth control pills need a doctor’s prescription?

💚 Some pills need a doctor’s prescription.

🧡 Some mini-pills may be given by a pharmacist after a consultation to check if they are right for you.

👩‍⚕️ Not sure which pill is best for you? Your pharmacist can help you understand your options.

❤️ Remember:
✅ Take your pill at the same time every day.
✅ The pill does not protect you against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
✅ Always ask your pharmacist if you have questions.

📍 Visit The Local Choice Pharmacy Walker Drive for friendly advice and professional care.

It's Global Handwashing Day! 👐🧼 Yes, there really is a day for everything – but this one has earned its spot on the calendar.

Washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds is still one of the simplest ways to stop germs from spreading through your home, school and workplace. It sounds small, but it really does make a difference – especially with little ones in the house.

A quick reminder of when it matters most: before eating or preparing food, after using the bathroom, when you get home, and whenever someone in the family is feeling under the weather. Teach the kids to sing 'Happy Birthday' twice while they scrub and they'll get to 20 seconds every time (we can't promise it will be in tune 😉).

👉 Running low on hand wash or sanitiser? Pop in to your nearest The Local Choice Pharmacy! We're here for you. 🫶

💊🌿 FUN FACT! DID YOU KNOW? 🌿💊

Did you know that aspirin’s history is linked to the bark of the willow tree? 🌳

Ancient cultures used willow bark to help relieve pain and fever. Today, aspirin is still widely used for pain relief and, in certain cases, to help prevent blood clots when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

💚 At The Local Choice Pharmacy, Clinic & Doctor, we believe that knowing more about your medicines helps you make informed decisions about your health!

💡 Remember: Aspirin is not suitable for everyone. Always use it as directed by your healthcare professional.

💚 Good medicine today, better health tomorrow!

🚨 Could you be at risk of a stroke and not know it?

Your blood pressure, heart rhythm and artery health can provide important clues about your stroke risk. In fact, atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm condition, can increase your risk of an ischaemic stroke by up to five times.

👉 For October 2026, for just R75, participating The Local Choice Pharmacies are partnering up with Rossmax to screen for stroke risk. Come in for a stroke assessment today.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

We're quick to notice a cough or a fever, but the signs that our minds need care are much easier to miss: trouble sleeping, feeling withdrawn, constant exhaustion, or losing interest in the things you usually enjoy.

Life is busy, and it's easy to push through and tell yourself that you're just tired. But if these feelings have been hanging around for a while, they deserve your attention – just like any other symptom would. 🧠🫶

👉 If this sounds like you or someone you love, please reach out. Talk to someone you trust, chat to your pharmacist or doctor, or call SADAG's 24-hour helpline toll-free on 0800 567 567. You don't have to carry it alone.
