As all of you know by now, Iβm a passionate diabetes advocate, registered dietitian & also a person living with type 1 diabetes. For those who havenβt seen the headlines or saw a lot of people wearing blue yesterday, we celebrated world diabetes day. π₯³π
This day is probably my most favourite day of the year - this says a lot since I always love celebrating birthdays. π
This is the one day of the year, where we can educate, advocate and inspire people on what diabetes entails and what signs to look out for. ππΌ
5 symptoms:
β’ The need to p*e frequently π½
β’ Extreme thirst π§
β’ Hunger π₯
β’ Weight loss π
β’ Exhaustion/feeling fatigue π΄
If you or a loved one has been experiencing these symptoms, please go to your nearest clinic or doctor and test your blood glucose levels. ππΌ
If you have a loved one who lives with diabetes:
β’ Ask them how you can support them π«ΆπΌ
β’ Listen to what they need or donβt need from you ππΌ
β’ Remember - to blame & shame them, is not helpful for eitheir parties π
β’ Remind them that they are not alone in this - you are their support system π€²π»
For people living with diabetes:
β’ Self-care is not selfish - it is essential π©΅
β’ Itβs okay not to be okay
β’ You are stronger than you think & braver than you imagine ππ»
β’ You are resilient!
β’ People around you care & love you π₯°
β’ You are not defined by your diabetes
β’ Diabetes is always better managed, together π«
The right words always goes a long way! π
