I didn't even know what a doula was.

Eleven years ago, I was simply a first-time mom preparing to meet my baby.

I chose Genesis Clinic Women's Health & Beautiful Birth .
I wanted a water birth.
I had a midwife.

And then, on the day I went into labour, I met my doula.

I didn't know her beforehand.

I didn't know what a doula was.

I certainly didn't know that years later I'd become one myself.

At the time, I simply knew that having another woman beside me—someone who could comfort, encourage and stay—made a difference.

I thought I was simply becoming a mother.

I didn't know I was beginning a journey that would eventually lead me here.

And that's only the beginning of the story. 🤍

Today, we celebrate you.

The woman who is becoming a mother.
The mother learning to trust herself.
The woman rebuilding after a difficult season.
The woman who gives, nurtures, carries, comforts and keeps going.

But today, you don't have to be strong for everyone else.

You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to receive.
You are allowed to be cared for.
You are allowed to take up space.

Your body is not simply something that carries you through life.

It deserves tenderness.
It deserves respect.
It deserves to feel safe.

World Breastfeeding Week 🤍

One of the most precious moments after birth is when a baby is placed on their mother's chest.
Long before feeding becomes about routines or schedules, it's about connection.
It's about warmth. It's about safety. It's about learning each other.
Breastfeeding is often described as "natural," but that doesn't always mean it's easy. Many mothers experience sore ni***es, uncertainty, exhaustion, or questions in those first few days—and that's okay.

Whether your breastfeeding journey lasts days, months, or years, every feed, every cuddle, and every moment spent responding to your baby's needs is an act of love.
As a doula, I've seen how much difference compassionate support can make. Sometimes what a new mother needs most isn't advice—it's reassurance. Someone to remind her that she's doing better than she thinks.

This World Breastfeeding Week, let's celebrate not only breastfeeding, but every mother learning, growing, and finding her own rhythm with her baby.

When people think about preparing for birth, they often think about packing a hospital bag, installing the car seat, or choosing baby clothes.

But true birth preparation starts much earlier.

As August is also my birthday month, I'm taking a moment to celebrate not only another year of life, but the mother and the woman I continue to become. Every challenge, every prayer, every lesson has shaped this journey—and I'm grateful for it all.

You don't have to have it all figured out. One small step, one deep breath, one day at a time is enough. You are growing in ways you may not even see yet.

What no one tells you about late pregnancy...

As your due date approaches, your body isn't just changing physically.

Your emotions may feel bigger. Small things may suddenly feel overwhelming. Sleep becomes harder. Discomfort increases. You may feel excited, anxious, impatient, and emotional—sometimes all in the same day.

This isn't because you're "not coping."

It's because your nervous system is working incredibly hard to prepare for birth while adapting to profound hormonal, physical, and emotional changes.

Your body needs more than rest.
It needs to feel safe.

This is why support matters so much in late pregnancy. Whether it's a partner, a trusted friend, your midwife, or a doula, being cared for can help your nervous system settle and remind your body that you don't have to carry everything alone.
