A critical look at consumption of sugar in various forms. Eating a whole fruit, with it's bulk as nature intended, is not the problem. Having juice extracted from a few in a glass, without the bulk, is. It has now become a sugar bomb. Even worse are all the derivatives of sugar added in numerous ways to foods prepacked on the shelves. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) being one of the worst offenders - sweeter than sugar, cheap, it is extensively used. Unfortunately, artificial sweeteners are even worse for our health. Moderation, and eating fresh produce in natural form seems to be the answer...
The biochemistry of fructose metabolism doesn't activate insulin, and therefore it might not be as big of a health threat. Right? Let’s look at the science.
