A wet, muddy environment can lead to infection between the claws of cattle, sheep and goats 🐄🐑🐐

This painful, contagious condition is called footrot. It can cause severe lameness, reduce appetite and ultimately have a negative impact on production.

Prevention and early treatment are key to controlling the spread of footrot in a herd or flock. This includes keeping animals out of muddy areas and treating cases as soon as they appear.

Afrivet offers a range of solutions for the treatment and prevention of footrot:
💊 Futaspray – topical antibacterial wound spray for infection control and wound healing

💉 Ecosulf & Ultratet – broad-spectrum injectable antibiotics for bacterial infections

🪳 Eraditick(R) Grease – spot treatment for ticks between claws that may worsen footrot or cause abscesses

🧼 A.C.T. LA Disinfectant – disinfection of housing and handling facilities

🌿 Ovi-Min(R) Gel & Electro Guard NF(R) Gel– vitamin and mineral support for immune support and recovery

Protect your animals before footrot spreads❗

Afrivet was proud to be part of the Limousin Breeders Summit 2026 in Parys. 🐄🌾

Dr Cornelis Pauw shared practical insights on how nutrition and management strategies can support cattle’s immune function and lead to healthier production systems.

Thank you to Fanie Ungerer for an interactive stand that encouraged valuable farmer engagement throughout the event.

The daily observation of livestock is an integral part of Primary Animal Health Care (PAHC) and changes in behaviour or appetite can often be the first sign that an animal is unwell and in need of closer examination👀🐄

Taking an animal’s re**al temperature is especially important, as an increase in body temperature (fever) is often the earliest indicator of infectious disease in livestock, with temperatures above 40°C requiring immediate attention.🌡️

Early detection allows for faster diagnosis and treatment, which can be lifesaving. The Afrivet Digital Thermometer is a reliable and essential tool for every farm and should be included in all first-aid kits to support effective animal health monitoring.

Manage Canine Aggression

There are 5 types of aggression in dogs, which can be seen in your dog’s body language.

IMPULSE-CONTROL / “DOMINANCE” AGGRESSION
Often in response to certain human behaviours, e.g. staring at the dog, reaching towards/over the dog or punishment.

FEAR AGGRESSION
Trying to increase the distance from the target of aggression through aggressive behaviour.

INTER-DOG AGGRESSION
Abnormal aggression between two dogs, usually of the same s*x.

PROTECTIVE/TERRITORIAL AGGRESSION
Trying to protect stationary (e.g. house) or mobile (e.g. car) property. Usually not aggressive away from territory.

FOOD-RELATED AGGRESSION
When approached while eating or if food/treat is threatened.

Protect your productivity with Afrivet’s Salmonella PVI Vaccine. 💉

Unlike most Salmonella strains that trigger immediate inflammation in the gut, Salmonella Gallinarum (SG) has a unique “stealth mode”. 🦠

Most Salmonella species use flagella (tails) to move, which are quickly recognised by the bird’s immune system (specifically Toll-like Receptor 5), triggering a strong inflammatory response.

SG, however, has adapted by losing its flagella, allowing it to enter the bird’s digestive tract “under the radar” without triggering an early immune alarm. This silent entry plays a major role in its ability to cause severe systemic infections before visible symptoms appear.

Afrivet’s Salmonella polyvalent inactivated vaccine provides a broad umbrella of protection against: ✔ Salmonella Gallinarum (SG) ✔ Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) ✔ Salmonella Typhimurium (ST)

Early protection is key to preventing hidden losses in production 🐔
