Today we woke to such sad news. A legend, a mentor and role model, a heart and lifelong midwife has passed to her resting place. Rest in peace dearest Marilyn. You’ve given tirelessly with love, wisdom and nothing but time. Your gentle smile, your passion for midwifery and love for watching it grow over the years. Thank you thank you thank you is all I can say as you have made all the difference. We will miss you so much.

There are no words that truly capture the sadness of saying goodbye to someone who meant so much.

My heart is heavy as I reflect on the loss of Marilyn Sher, the “M” in M&V Midwives. For so many years she was not only my colleague, mentor, and friend, but someone I admired deeply and learned so much from.

Mother, Grandmother, Midwife, Mentor, Friend.

Marilyn was a remarkable woman whose kindness, strength, wisdom, and passion for midwifery touched countless lives. She dedicated more than 50 years to caring for women and babies, walking alongside families during some of the most important moments of their lives.

She believed deeply that women deserved to birth with dignity, respect, and choice. She championed independent midwifery, shared her knowledge generously, and inspired generations of midwives fortunate enough to learn from her.

What I admired most was her passion. Even after decades in midwifery, her love for birth never faded. Midwifery was never simply a profession to Marilyn, it was her calling.

Her gentle wisdom, calm presence, and unwavering faith touched more lives than she will ever know. The families she cared for, the babies she welcomed, and the midwives she mentored will continue to carry her legacy forward.

Thank you, Marilyn, for everything you gave to this profession, to the families you served, and to those of us privileged enough to call you our friend.

You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

With love, gratitude, and a broken heart,

Veronica 🤍

Compassion, advocacy, change…..

Midwives don’t just attend births — they hold space for life changing moments.
Within the Private Practicing Midwives Alliance, midwives continue to stand for what matters most: safe, respectful, woman-centred care rooted in dignity, skill, and compassion.
They are the calm in the intensity, the steady presence in uncertainty, and the advocates when voices need to be strengthened. They guide families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with continuity that builds trust and transforms experiences.
Despite challenges and at times unfair public perception, midwives continue to show up. They continue to learn, adapt, and lead with evidence-based care — even when the work is demanding and the recognition is limited.
Midwifery is not just a role. It is responsibility, judgement, courage, and humanity in action.
To every private practising midwife: your work matters more than it is often seen. You are shaping safer births and stronger beginnings — one family at a time. 🤍

Even if you feel great, some health problems don’t show obvious symptoms. That’s why prenatal tests are so important!

Expect:
📸 Ultrasound – See your baby’s growth!
🩸 Blood & urine tests – Check for infections & anaemia
🔬 Blood pressure & glucose screening – Prevent complications
🤰🏾 Regular baby monitoring – Ensure a safe delivery

Every test is a step toward a healthy pregnancy. Work with your health worker to ensure you get the care you need, when you need it. 💕

Birth is tough, it’s rough, it’s endurance and takes huge mental strength but it can be, it should be an incredible experience and memory. The best of both worlds is birthing naturally, with one on one midwife led care with a midwife you’ve grown to know and trust through your pregnancy yet for those who prefer, in the safety of a hospital. This is what an alongside hospital midwife birth unit offers.

This is a reality

When midwives are by women's side through pregnancy and birth, health outcomes improve & women are happier with their care. They are more likely to have:

👩🏻 Positive birth experiences
💕 More natural births
✂️ Fewer medical interventions

To improve the health of mums & babies, WHO urges countries to invest in lifesaving midwifery models of care.
