PRIORITISE YOUR SPINE HEALTH AND KEEP MOVING! 🏃‍♀️

Back pain is more than an occasional nuisance. It can affect how we work, sleep, exercise and enjoy everyday life.

Here are some facts worth knowing:

619 million people worldwide experienced low back pain in 2020, that's roughly 1 in 13 people. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates this could rise to 843 million people by 2050.

Low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and most people will experience it at some point in their lives.

In a nationally representative South African study, 18.3% of adults reported chronic pain, with the back accounting for 30.5% of reported chronic-pain sites.

A study of adults attending selected hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal found that 18.1% had chronic low back pain. Lack of regular exercise and a sedentary lifestyle were among factors associated with chronic low back pain in that study.

Your spine supports you every day. Give it the movement, strength and care it deserves.

Move more. Strengthen wisely. Listen to your body. Protect your mobility.

DON’T WAIT FOR YOUR KIDNEYS TO SPEAK UP

Your kidneys work silently every day, filtering your blood, removing waste, balancing fluids and helping regulate blood pressure. The problem? Kidney disease can develop without obvious symptoms until significant damage has already occurred.

And the South African numbers are a powerful reminder to pay attention:
🔹 The National Kidney Foundation of South Africa estimates that kidney disease may affect as many as 1 in 8 South Africans.
🔹 According to the South African Renal Registry, 9,342 people were receiving kidney replacement therapy, dialysis or a kidney transplant in December 2022.
🔹 The South African Renal Society estimates that 6–17% of South Africans may have some degree of chronic kidney disease, with diabetes, high blood pressure and HIV among important risk factors.
💙 The good news is that early detection can make a difference.

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV or a family history of kidney disease, speak to your healthcare professional about regular kidney checks. A simple blood test to assess kidney function, together with a urine test and blood pressure measurement, can help identify kidney problems early.

Your kidneys don't always give you a warning.
Don't wait for symptoms. Know your numbers. Protect your kidneys.

GLP-1s and semaglutide have been all over the news lately. But what do they actually do?

In simple terms: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone your body naturally makes after you eat. It helps manage blood sugar, hunger and digestion.

GLP-1 receptor agonists are medicines that work in a similar way to this natural hormone. Most GLP-1 medicines are given as an injection under the skin, usually in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, a prescription medicine that works like the GLP-1 hormone in the body. Always speak to your doctor or pharmacist about which treatment is right for you.

Skin Cancer: Signs & Risk Factors

➟ C – Colour: Uneven colours such as brown, black, red, white, or blue

'n Oggend vol stories, insig en betekenis! ✨
