Dear comrades

NALEDI labour research institute is undertaking a research project to understand the experiences of LGBTQI+ workers in South Africa and the Southern African region, and how trade unions can strengthen their rights, representation and support.

As part of this project, we invite trade union members - including LGBTQI+ members, allies and gender activists - to complete our survey.

The survey explores experiences in workplaces and unions, discrimination, access to support and priorities for union action. Your contribution will help shape research, worker education and advocacy for inclusive workplaces and unions.

Please complete the survey here:

Participation is voluntary and responses are anonymous.

Please share this invitation with other trade union members.

Thank you for contributing your voice.

Day 2: Ms Jeanette Hunter, Deputy Director-General for Primary Health Care (PHC), addressing the Obesity Indaba in Sandton, which concluded on 15 October 2026.

Delegates highlighted the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles, including regular physical activity, healthy eating, and reducing the consumption of sugar and alcohol, as part of efforts to prevent and manage obesity.

These are among the key interventions outlined in the Strategy for the Prevention and Management of Obesity in South Africa 2023–2030. Obesity remains a significant public health challenge in South Africa and contributes to the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including type 2 diabetes and certain cancers. "Addressing obesity requires coordinated, multisectoral action to create supportive environments that enable people to make healthier choices," Ms Hunter, as she officially closed the Indaba.
