The Mission of the HPCSA is: -

To regulate and guide registered healthcare professions and protect the public through:
• Setting contextually relevant standards for healthcare training and practice;
• Setting and maintaining standards for Ethical and Professional practice;
• Strengthening the maintenance of continuing competency programmes;
• Ensuring consistent compliance to all the set standa

rds;
• Continually engaging the public and other stakeholders. The HPCSA is mandated to regulate the health professions in the country in aspects pertaining to education, training and registration, professional conduct and ethical behaviour, ensuring Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and fostering compliance with healthcare standards. In order to safeguard the public and guiding the professions, registration in terms of the Act it is a prerequisite for practising any of the health professions registrable with Council.

THE HPCSA’S DOH BOARD GIVING WITSIES THE EDGE!

The Professional Board of Dental Assisting, Dental Therapy & Oral Hygiene (DOH), under the auspices of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), continued its student stakeholder engagement programme with a visit to the University of the Witwatersrand, where it engaged with DOH students.

Expert presentations covered key areas, including HPCSA registration, scope of practice and scope of profession, continuing professional development and financial responsibility, equipping students with essential knowledge as they prepare to enter the profession.

The presentations were followed by interactive question-and-answer sessions, providing students with an opportunity to seek clarity on matters relevant to their transition into professional practice.

The Professional Board for Environmental Health Practitioners, under the ambit of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), is currently hosting an interactive Roadshow with practitioners at the Radisson Safari Hotel in Hoedspruit, Central Lowveld, Limpopo Province.

The Board Chairperson, Ms Mashudu Mukoma, set the tone for the engagement by presenting the Board’s five-year strategy. HPCSA officials and Board members are also engaging practitioners through interactive presentations and discussions on key matters, including professional conduct, registration and restoration, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), ethical rules and regulations, the role of the Inspectorate Division, the complaints management process, and ethics in environmental health.

Key stakeholder partners in attendance include the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), the Border Management Authority (BMA), the National Department of Health, and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in Limpopo.
