EMPOWERING FUTURE ORAL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS

On Thursday, 21 May 2026, the Professional Board for Dental Assisting, Dental Therapy and Oral Hygiene (DOH), under the ambit of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), successfully hosted a stakeholder engagement roadshow for Dental Assisting, Dental Therapy and Oral Hygiene students at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

DOH Board members and HPCSA officials were warmly welcomed by Prof. Dini Mawela, Dean of the School of Dentistry and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, together with university officials.

The interactive engagement brought together students from first-year to final-year levels, creating an informative platform to strengthen their understanding of the regulatory and professional responsibilities associated with their respective professions. The session also provided valuable guidance to students preparing to transition into the professional workplace.

Key topics discussed during the engagement included HPCSA registration processes, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) compliance, professional conduct, and financial literacy – all of which are essential components in cultivating ethical, competent and financially responsible healthcare practitioners.

The Professional Board is committed to supporting students and young professionals through ongoing stakeholder engagement that promotes professional excellence, accountability and adherence to healthcare standards.
