The South Africa Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Quarterly Meeting is underway in Johannesburg, hosted by SANAC, bringing together key stakeholders including the Global Fund Country Team, Local Fund Agents, Principal and Sub-recipients, government institutions, development partners, Provincial Councils on AIDS and communities. Discussions focus on GC8 planning and process appraisal, GC7 Principal Recipient indicator performance and the Oversight Committee Report. The meeting also marks SANAC CEO Dr Thembisile Xulu’s final CCM meeting before she takes up her new role as Director-General at the National Department of Health.

SANAC CEO Dr. Thembisile Xulu recently participated in South Africa’s Pursuit of a 7th Voluntary Licence for Lenacapavir: For the Benefit of All SADC Member States, held in Sandton. Speaking at the conference, Dr Xulu said, ““Innovation without access continues to be an injustice. That is why South Africa’s pursuit of a seventh voluntary licence for Lenacapavir is not simply about local manufacturing, it is about ensuring that the communities and countries that carry the greatest burden of HIV can also benefit from the innovations that will shape our response.”

Speaking at day two of the 3-day training and onboarding session in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) for participants from coastal provinces appointed to support the NLC-funded SANAC project for the 1.1 Million HIV Treatment Close the Gap Campaign, SANAC Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Technical Advisor Ms. Nthabiseng Mogowe highlighted key issues across the HIV prevention and treatment continuum. Her session covered HIV transmission and vulnerability, HIV testing, prevention choices, antiretroviral therapy (ART), viral load monitoring, U=U, and common HIV myths.
