As we raise awareness during National Burns awareness week, keep your child safe from burns this winter. Prioritise prevention by keeping children away from potential heat sources like hot water bottles, stoves, kettles, fireplaces, and hot drinks. Ensure all matches and lighters are stored securely, and be extra cautious when using hot liquids and food in the kitchen. If you use an electric blanket, ensure that it is switched off and unplugged when your child goes to sleep.

If you are HIV-positive, remember to always take your HIV or antiretroviral treatment. This makes breastfeeding safe if the virus is suppressed to lower than detectable level.

Breastfeeding mothers should eat a variety of foods including fruits and vegetables, iron-rich foods, and drink lots of water. While breastfeeding, it is advisable not to drink alcohol or smoke.
