I felt like reflecting on strength today.
Not the kind of strength we celebrate from the outside, but the kind that becomes necessary when life keeps asking you to carry more.
For me, strength started early. It meant taking responsibility before I was really old enough to understand what responsibility was. Later, it meant raising my children as a single parent and being the one who had to keep showing up through everything.
It meant getting up when everyone else was sick, even when I was sick too.
When you live like that for long enough, strength can become more than something you do. It can become part of your identity.
You become the dependable one.
The capable one.
The one who copes.
The one everyone assumes will manage.
And eventually, receiving help can feel unfamiliar. Rest can feel uncomfortable. Letting someone else carry something for you can feel harder than simply doing it yourself.
This is one of the places Somatic Neuroplasticity Therapy can help us explore: not by taking away our strength, but by helping the nervous system learn that support, rest and receiving can also be safe.
You do not have to stop being strong.
You may simply need to stop believing that strength means carrying everything alone.
What are you still carrying all alone?
