Sometimes balance is overrated.
I’m writing this while sitting in a waiting room today, after a few weeks that have felt very full.
There have been beautiful things. A family wedding. My sister and her family being here. Celebrations, connection and precious time together.
There has also been work, teaching, deadlines, completing another course, disrupted routines, difficult conversations, a sore body, less training than I would like, and the general reality of trying to keep all the plates spinning.
And I realised today that perhaps the lesson isn’t to get better at balancing everything.
Perhaps it’s to stop expecting ourselves to.
There are seasons when your exercise routine is consistent, your meals are planned, your work feels organised, your relationships feel easy and you have energy to spare.
And then there are seasons when you are simply doing the best you can with what is in front of you.
Movement might be ten minutes instead of an hour.
Rest might be more important than pushing through.
Some things might need to wait.
You might not feel particularly “on top of things”.
That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your way.
Health and wellbeing aren’t about performing wellness perfectly. They are also about knowing when to adapt, when to soften your expectations, and when to listen to what your body and life are asking from you.
I’m still moving. Still teaching. Still learning. Still showing up.
Just perhaps with a little less pressure to have everything beautifully balanced and figured out.
Sometimes evolving looks like pushing forward.
And sometimes it looks like giving yourself permission to meet yourself exactly where you are. 🤍
