My name is Amelia, and my love for nature and its many wonders has been infused into every cell of my being since the moment my earthly journey began. I grew up on a lush and bountiful farm in the sprawli
ng winelands of the Robertson district of South Africa, surrounded by the majestic blue Langeberg mountains of the Klein Karoo and the ever-flowing Breede River in the valley below. It was this river and these mountains which became my dollhouse, my sacred space, my safe and trusted companion; they were an escape from one world and an ascent into another. I would often take in orphaned baby rabbits and birds that fell from their nests— feeding them, nurturing them, coaxing them back towards health. Creating a space for healing and growth was something which came naturally to me; it was my small offering back to the mysterious natural world that inherently sheltered and cared for me. These many years later it has become my dream— a calling one could say— to share this beauty and the profoundly healing gifts of nature; and to channel my love and compassion towards the deep wounding of the world and its inhabitants. In 2017 I embarked upon a 320 km pilgrimage through the unspoiled countryside of northern Spain. It was a season of love and loss, a shedding of old layers and outdated beliefs; it was a season of death, transformation, rebirth. It was there, on The Camino de Compostela, where the symbol of the Blue Butterfly revealed itself to me. The days were pregnant with an energy of healing, and a sense of anticipation— as if something conspired to birth itself from the space I was now uncovering within. Everywhere our small group of pilgrims went we saw swarms of delightful orange and white butterflies, fluttering playfully in the afternoon sun. But on the very last day of what was— despite its marvels— a long and arduous journey, I took a divinely guided detour and found myself beyond the well-worn path. There, resting on a sunshine-yellow flower, as if awaiting my arrival, a single blue butterfly— the likes of which I had never before seen. It was a magical sight; I was at once transported by its remarkable beauty. It’s as if it was there to reacquaint me with the words wonder and awe— offering itself as a model of transformation, an incarnation of new beginnings. The more I meditated on its presence the more it became a quiet yet profound confirmation of the as-of-yet uncharted path that lay ahead, a whisper from the wisdom within, a reminder of a calling to help guide others towards their purpose, their birthright, a life of bliss! The Blue Butterfly Cottage
Much like that magical little blue butterfly which divined its way into my life one early summer afternoon, another gift lay in store, while still deep in the throes of the worldwide lock-down of 2020. Not far from my family’s home there is a piece of land— and on it, a tiny cottage—. After some years of neglect, it had become overgrown and had fallen into disrepair. The moment I saw it I fell immediately in love— visions of what it could metamorphose into fluttering throughout the open fields of my mind. I shared these visions with the owners of the land on which the cottage is located and without a hesitation they said I can use it, transform it and enjoy it, no-strings-attached, ‘Just use it!’
A few select upgrades and a little TLC later.... the aptly named Blue Butterfly Cottage is now a rustic, off-the-grid little mountain gem nestled in a bouquet of healing fauna and flora; perched beside a clear mountain stream and surrounded by magical little nooks to help you to clear your mind and connect with the Earth. It is a place without WiFi, guiding you to go within, connect with your inner Self. No electricity so you instead become your own source of light— (though candles and a cosy fireplace are there to help warm your heart and soul!) This magical little cottage and the healing energies within its natural landscape will alchemize and rejuvenate your entire being... leaving you content, inspired and deeply refreshed! The cottage can sleep up to 4 people
