Today is World Hypertension Day - a reminder that high blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because many people do not realise they have it until complications develop.

Hypertension does not only affect the heart - it can also cause serious damage to your kidneys over time. High blood pressure damages the blood vessels in the kidneys, making it harder for them to properly filter waste and excess fluid from the body. If left uncontrolled, this can lead to chronic kidney disease and even kidney failure.

Protect your health by:
• Checking your blood pressure regularly
• Taking your medication as prescribed
• Reducing salt intake
• Staying active
• Drinking enough water
• Attending regular medical check-ups

World Salt Awareness Week 🧂🌍

At BGM Pharmaceuticals, we encourage everyone to become more aware of their daily salt intake and the impact it can have on overall health.

Too much salt in the diet can lead to serious health problems such as:
• High blood pressure
• Heart disease
• Stroke
• Kidney problems
• Fluid retention and bloating

Many people consume far more salt than the recommended amount without realizing it, especially through processed foods, takeaways, sauces, chips, and fast foods.

The recommended daily salt intake for adults is less than 5 grams of salt per day (about one teaspoon).

Simple ways to reduce your salt intake:
✔ Read food labels carefully
✔ Limit processed and fast foods
✔ Use herbs and spices instead of extra salt
✔ Reduce salty snacks and sauces
✔ Taste food before adding salt

World Hygiene Day 🌍🧼

At BGM, we believe that small daily habits make a big difference - and one of the most important is simply washing your hands.

Proper hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections. When we don’t wash our hands, we can easily spread harmful bacteria and viruses that may lead to illnesses such as diarrhoea, respiratory infections, and other preventable diseases.

What can happen if you don’t wash your hands?
• Germs spread easily from person to person
• Increased risk of getting sick or infecting others
• Contamination of food and surfaces
• Higher risk for vulnerable groups like infants and the elderly

Follow these simple steps to wash your hands properly:

1. Wet your hands with clean running water
2. Apply soap and lather well
3. Rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds
(Don’t forget between fingers, under nails, and the backs of your hands)
4. Rinse thoroughly under clean water
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry

Clean hands save lives it’s that simple.
