One of the most common misconceptions we see is that all unusual baby head shapes are treated with a helmet. In reality, the diagnosis determines the treatment.

Positional plagiocephaly and brachycephaly occur because of external pressure on a baby's soft skull. The skull sutures remain open, and treatment may include repositioning, physiotherapy, and in some cases, a cranial remoulding helmet.

Craniosynostosis is different. It occurs when one or more of the skull sutures fuse too early, restricting normal skull growth. Because the underlying problem is the prematurely fused suture, treatment is usually surgical and is managed by a specialist craniofacial team.

So where do helmets come in?

Following surgery, some babies are prescribed a custom cranial remoulding helmet. The helmet doesn't replace surgery or treat the fused suture—it helps guide the skull's shape as it heals and grows after the operation.

If you have concerns about your baby's head shape, please reach out on 011 803 6649. Early assessment helps ensure your little one receives the most appropriate care.

It may not look like much at first... but every layer plays an important role. When manufacturing a custom carbon fibre Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO), the lay-up process is where precision meets craftsmanship.

Each layer of carbon fibre is carefully selected and positioned to achieve the right combination of strength, flexibility, and energy return. While it may seem that "less is more," every layer has a specific purpose and contributes to how the finished orthosis performs.

Once the lay-up is complete, the orthosis is laminated, trimmed, and finished to create a lightweight yet incredibly strong device that's custom-made for the individual wearing it.
Behind every custom orthosis is a combination of clinical expertise, engineering, and skilled craftsmanship—because no two patients are the same.

Every orthosis we manufacture is designed specifically for the individual, helping them achieve the best possible function, comfort, and mobility. Contact us on 011 803 6649 for an appointment.

Diabetes can have a significant impact on your foot health, often without causing pain in the early stages.

High blood sugar levels can damage the nerves (known as diabetic neuropathy) and reduce blood flow to the feet. This means a small cut, blister, or area of pressure may go unnoticed and can become a serious complication if left untreated.

For some people living with diabetes, custom foot orthoses and specialised footwear can help redistribute pressure, improve comfort, and reduce the risk of skin breakdown. These devices are particularly beneficial for individuals who have developed neuropathy, foot deformities, or areas of high pressure.

At our practice, we provide biomechanical assessments and custom orthotic solutions designed to support healthy foot function and help protect feet that are at risk. Contact us on 011 803 6649 for your assessment.

Your feet carry you through life—taking care of them today can help preserve your mobility for the future.

After breast surgery, even a small amount of volume replacement can make a big difference to your comfort and confidence.

The Allsil 100% silicone partial breast shaper is designed for women who need slight volume compensation and improved symmetry following a lumpectomy, reconstruction or other breast surgery. Its soft, natural feel adapts to your body's contours for a seamless look under clothing.

Why women love it:
• Made from 100% skin-friendly silicone that closely mimics natural breast tissue.
• Can be worn in a pocketed mastectomy bra or directly against the skin for maximum therapeutic benefit.
• Naturally cooling against the skin, making it especially comfortable after radiation therapy.
• Helps support scar healing and softening when worn directly on the skin.
• Patented Starburst Massage Technology promotes airflow, reduces heat build-up, and provides a gentle massage effect that may assist lymphatic drainage.

While many children naturally develop arches as they grow, this isn't true for everyone. The good news is that not all flat feet require treatment.

The most important question isn't whether your child has flat feet—it's whether those flat feet are causing pain, affecting their movement, or limiting their ability to enjoy everyday activities.

At our practice, we assess each child individually and recommend treatment only when it is clinically appropriate. This may include custom foot orthoses, footwear advice, exercises, or simply monitoring their development over time.

Every child deserves to move comfortably and confidently, and we're here to support healthy development every step of the way.

Have questions about your child's foot development? We'd be happy to help. Contact us on 011 803 6649.

Some journeys are measured not in kilometres, but in courage.

Today we're celebrating one patient's incredible milestone as he takes his very first steps with his new prosthetic leg.

His journey to amputation was long, traumatic, and filled with challenges. In addition to losing his leg, he also lost the use of his right arm, making his rehabilitation even more complex. Yet despite everything he has endured, he continues to show remarkable determination and resilience.

His new prosthesis features the Navii Microprocessor Knee from Össur. This advanced prosthetic knee uses intelligent sensor technology to continuously adapt to the user's walking pattern, helping to provide greater stability, smoother movement, and increased confidence with every step. For someone facing the added challenge of only having the use of one arm for balance and mobility, this technology plays an even more important role in supporting safe, functional movement.

This moment is about so much more than walking. It represents months of healing, perseverance, rehabilitation, and the decision to keep moving forward despite unimaginable obstacles.

It is a privilege to walk alongside our patients through these life-changing moments. Watching someone regain their independence after everything they have been through is why we do what we do.

Cranial helmets are designed to be safely worn during both awake time and sleep, including naps and nighttime rest. Importantly, they do not change or replace safe sleep guidelines — babies should always continue to sleep on their back, on a firm and flat surface.

These helmets are lightweight, custom-made, and designed to fit within a baby’s normal daily routine. When properly fitted and monitored, they do not interfere with breathing, safe sleep positioning, or comfort during rest.

Most babies adapt quickly, and helmet therapy simply becomes part of their 23-hour daily wear schedule, supporting head shape correction while allowing safe sleep practices to remain unchanged.

Not all breast forms are the same — and choosing the right type depends on each individual’s surgery, needs, and comfort.

A full breast form is typically used after a full mastectomy to restore shape, balance, and symmetry. These forms replace the entire breast volume and can help clothing fit more comfortably and confidently.

A partial breast form (or shaper) is often used after a lumpectomy, reconstruction, or partial breast surgery where some natural breast tissue remains. It helps fill uneven areas and improve symmetry in bras or clothing.

Every patient’s journey is unique, which is why fittings are tailored to find the most comfortable and natural option for each individual.
