Even a good old perm in your hair, especially those from the 80ties, doesn’t last. And it struck me last week that the word “perm” rests in impermanence itself.
I’ve been contemplating more & more on the meaning of impermanence over the past few weeks, and also been reading the book “The Tibetan Book of Living & Dying” which has been such a humbling experience.
In Buddhism, impermanence is the understanding that everything is continually changing, whether it be our bodies, our relationships, our circumstances, etc.
Nothing is static…where there is life, there is movement.
Reflecting on impermanence in our daily lives is meant to wake us up, it’s meant to make us appreciate what’s around us, be more present with our people & grateful for the experiences we get to have with them & just in our lives in this present time.
Much of our suffering comes from holding on to people & experiences as though everything will stay the same. Yet when we accept that everything is changing, our loved ones are evolving & growing…as are we, then we suffer less.
By surrendering to change and not fighting the change, we have more energy for our lives, more of our life force returns.
So savour what is here now. And remember: where there is life, there is movement.
