DM Q&A
I think sometimes people enter therapy already carrying so much shame, guilt and conviction about their choices that they struggle to be completely honest, even in a safe space.
That’s why the connection with your therapist is SO important. You need to feel that you can say, “I’m scared,” “I’m struggling,” or even “I did this,” without feeling judged. It may not happen in the first consultation, but you should eventually feel safe enough to be completely open.
And as a client, you’re also allowed to do your due diligence. I personally do this with every professional I see whether it’s a gynaecologist, surgeon or otherwise. If I leave the first or second consultation feeling dismissed, unheard, or like I’m working too hard to make the relationship work, I’ll get a second opinion and move on.
Because vulnerability requires safety. If I’m trusting you with the most vulnerable parts of myself, I need to feel that you can hold that space with care🤍~ Basha
