Spring has officially sprung, and the views of the Western Cape do not disappoint!

We snapped a few of our favourite sights from the field this week. What does spring look like through your lens?

Happy Spring Day! Here’s to a season of new growth, stronger crops and better possibilities.

Spring is often described as a season of growth. Physiologically, it is also a season of crop adjustment.

As temperatures rise and daylight lengthens, plants accelerate photosynthesis, metabolism, and new tissue development. However, growing conditions are seldom stable. Cold mornings, warmer afternoons, drying winds, and fluctuating soil moisture are common.

These changes can trigger repeated bursts of reactive oxygen species (ROS). At controlled levels, ROS signal the plant to detect and respond to changing conditions, but when ROS production exceeds the plant’s antioxidant capacity, useful signalling shifts to oxidative stress, putting cell membranes, chlorophyll, and photosynthetic structures under pressure.

Bioflavonoids are part of the plant’s natural redox-buffering system. Their molecular structure enables them to donate electrons or hydrogen atoms, helping stabilise excessive reactive species. They also work alongside enzymatic antioxidants to help regulate oxidative pressure.

When bioflavonoids are applied proactively to leaves, they can reinforce this buffering capacity before environmental pressure peaks. This helps actively growing leaves maintain cellular function and photosynthetic efficiency, protecting crop performance as conditions change.

Better wetting. Uniform coverage. Enhanced absorption.

Absorpt EAU is an essential tank mix adjuvant, formulated from saponified fatty acids, wetters and spreaders, and citrus oil extracts.

This multifunctional adjuvant enhances the performance of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and foliar feeds. It ensures even distribution across leaf surfaces, maximizes coverage, and improves uptake of active ingredients.

One adjuvant. Three powerful performance benefits.

What does it take to develop and manufacture effective crop solutions at Nutrico?

It starts with one clear question: How can the product help farmers achieve more, with greater confidence?

In our on-site laboratories, we use science to turn that question into practical solutions.
Our laboratory team verifies the identity, concentration, stability, pH, consistency and many more parameters of our products. This helps us maintain high-quality standards, from the earliest stages of development through to every batch we manufacture.

Every method, measurement, and result forms part of a disciplined process designed to support our alignment with local and international regulatory requirements and quality management systems.
All of this serves one purpose: to deliver dependable products, consistent quality and trusted field performance, backed by technical knowledge farmers can rely on.

It starts at the seed. Keep it LIVIN.

Root development sets the pace for nutrient uptake, vigour, and yield, stressing the importance of seed-applied biologicals by placing beneficial bacteria where the plant needs them from germination.

The LIVIN range gives you strain-specific inoculants for enhanced nitrogen fixation and plant growth promotion. Match them to your crop:

SBP1 — Bradyrhizobium japonicum, inoculant for Soybeans
SBP4 — Bradyrhizobium japonicum, 20-day planting window liquid inoculant for Soybeans
LUP2 — Sinorhizobium meliloti, peat inoculant for Lucerne
GNP1 — Bradyrhizobium japonicum, liquid inoculant for Groundnuts
TRIBAC — Plant growth-promoting and phosphate-solubilising bacteria blend, compatible across seed treatment programmes

Living soil biology. Easy application. Proven field performance.

Speak to the Nutrico team to find the right LIVIN treatment for your planting programme.

Advancing the agricultural industry takes more than growing healthy crops; it takes remarkable people. This National Women's Day, we celebrate the women whose expertise strengthens every link in the agricultural chain.

Women are shaping a stronger, more sustainable future for agriculture, whether as plant scientists creating innovative solutions, agronomists helping growers make informed decisions, producers, marketers, manufacturing and logistics specialists, or business leaders.

Happy Women's Day, South Africa!

This week, the Nutrico team had the privilege of joining the growers, researchers, and industry leaders at the SABO/FERTASA/Grain SA Biostimulants Workshops to explore the latest innovations in soil biology, crop performance, and sustainable production.

By investing in continuous learning and engaging with the wider agricultural community, we strengthen our ability to deliver science-backed solutions that create value where it matters most: on the farm.

Thank you to SABO, FERTASA, Grain SA and everyone who contributed to two informative and valuable workshops.
We look forward to continuing these conversations in the field.

Managing bacterial spot (Xanthomonas arboricola) requires more than responding to visible symptoms. It involves strengthening orchard resilience to prevent disease from affecting fruit quality.
Early spring moisture, wind-driven rain, and rapid shoot growth create significant risk periods, even during dry seasons.

Our latest article in the SA Fruit Journal explains how the combination of Cuprotect 538 SC contact copper protection and Flavomune’s internal biochemical support prepares high-value orchards in advance.
