Lip balms
LIP BALM: Because your lips deserve a bodyguard too! đź’‹
They have thinner skin, fewer oil glands and a weaker natural barrier than most of your face

WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN YOUR LIP BALM?
A good lip balm is basically a tiny barrier-building cocktail:
Occlusives — petrolatum, mineral oil, beeswax help seal in moisture
Humectants — such as glycerin can attract water to the skin.
Emollients — shea butter, ceramides and certain oils help soften and smooth those flaky lips.
SPF — zinc oxide or other UV filters are a BIG plus because lips can suffer sun damage too.

SO, WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU USE?
For very dry, cracked or irritated lips, choose a simple, fragrance-free balm or ointment containing petrolatum, ceramides or shea butter.

For daytime, choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ lip balm and reapply — especially if you're outdoors.

For night-time, go for something richer and more occlusive. Think of it as a little sleeping bag for your lips.

WHO NEEDS LIP BALM?
Pretty much anyone whose lips are regularly exposed to:
-Cold or windy weatherďż˝-Sunďż˝-Dry air or air-conditioningďż˝-Frequent lip lickingďż˝-Matte or long-wear lipsticksďż˝-Medications that cause dryness
-those who mouth breathe

And if you're using matte lipstick, here's the hack: moisturise your lips first, allow the balm to absorb, gently remove excess, THEN apply your lipstick.

BUT HERE'S THE CATCH...
Some contain fragrance, flavourings, menthol, camphor, eucalyptus or cinnamon/peppermint oils, which can irritate already-sensitive lips and create a vicious cycle of “apply balm → feel better → irritation → apply more balm.”
And if you're constantly reapplying your lip balm and your lips never seem to improve, don't just keep buying another flavour! You could have contact dermatitis, eczema, cheilitis, infection or another underlying problem that needs proper assessment.

TEMPEROMANDIBULAR JOINT(TMJ)
This is a little hinge-and-glide joint connecting your jawbone to your skull — and it can become irritated or inflamed

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
• Jaw pain or tenderness
• Clicking, popping or grating sounds
• Difficulty or pain when chewing
• Headaches, especially around the temples
• Earache, ear fullness or ringing
• Facial pain
• Jaw stiffness or difficulty opening your mouth
• Pain that spreads into the neck or shoulders
• Occasionally, the jaw may lock!

SO WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?
-Teeth grinding or clenching — especially at night
-Stress and tension
-Arthritis affecting the joint
-Trauma or injury to the jaw
-Dental problems or changes in the bite
-Overuse of the chewing muscles

TREATMENT
✔️ avoid excessive chewing and very hard foods
✔️ Warm compresses can help relax tight muscles
✔️ Anti-inflammatory medication
✔️ Physiotherapy and jaw exercises can improve movement and muscle function
✔️ A dentist may recommend a bite plate
✔️ Stress management
✔️ severe cases may require treatments such as btox injections or other interventions

BUT DON’T IGNORE A LOCKED JAW!
Severe pain, significant swelling, inability to open or close your mouth, trauma, fever or sudden worsening symptoms deserve prompt medical or dental assessment. ❤️

5 Acne Hacks Your Skin Will Thank You For

1. Don’t pick—please!
That “tiny squeeze” can become inflammation, pigmentation and a scar.
2. Cleanse, don’t strip.
Use a gentle cleanser twice daily. Scrubbing acne away only irritates the skin and can make things worse.
3. Befriend salicylic acid.
It helps unclog pores and reduce oil and inflammation. Start a few times a week and build up as your skin tolerates it.
4. Moisturise—even if you’re oily!
Acne treatments can damage the skin barrier. Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep your skin calm and balanced.
5. SPF is non-negotiable.
Acne may disappear, but those dark marks love to linger. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen helps prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation from becoming your unwanted souvenir.

Bonus hack: Change your pillowcase regularly, clean your phone screen and keep heavy hair products away from your face.

Another successful Biomedical Emporium treatment day at the studio. Patients were treated to various peels and retinol microneedling at a ridiculously minimal cost as the idea behind these open days is to expose as many patients as we can to benefits of these procedures!

Facial Icing:
Rubbing ice (or an ice roller) on your face? Is it really the secret to glowing skin?

The cool perks:
💙 Reduces morning puffiness by constricting blood vessels.
💙 Can temporarily calm redness and mild inflammation.
💙 Gives your skin a refreshed, firmer appearance.
💙 May make pores look smaller—for a little while.
💙 That post-ice glow? The improved circulation after the skin warms back up can leave you looking fresh and radiant.

But before you freeze your face...
🥶 Ice doesn’t treat acne, erase wrinkles or permanently tighten skin.
🥶 Applying ice directly to the skin for too long can cause irritation, ice burns or even damage tiny blood vessels.
🥶 If you have very sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema, broken capillaries or cold-induced conditions like cold urticaria, facial icing may do more harm than good.

How to do it safely:
✔️ Wrap the ice cube in a clean cloth or use an ice roller.
✔️ Glide gently—don’t hold it in one spot.
✔️ Limit it to 1–2 minutes.
✔️ Follow with your favourite moisturiser or serum.

The final verdict? Facial icing is a quick beauty hack—not a miracle treatment. It can temporarily reduce puffiness, enhance your glow and give the illusion of tighter pores, but healthy skin still comes down to consistent skincare, sun protection and good lifestyle habits. ❤️

✅I’ve just attended an insightful Wegovy® update, and one message really stood out for me:
we need to stop treating obesity as a cosmetic issue and start treating it as a chronic health condition.

GLP-1 medications are not a “quick fix” or a shortcut — and the stigma surrounding their use needs to change.
When appropriately prescribed and monitored, they can form part of a comprehensive approach to weight and metabolic health.

Why does treating it early matter? Because obesity and insulin resistance can have consequences that extend far beyond the number on the scale
— including increased cardiovascular risk and hormonal/metabolic disturbances that may contribute to fertility problems in some women.

Addressing metabolic health earlier may help reduce the burden of these complications later in life.

And yes, a GLP1 like Wegovy can be safely prescribed for adolescents aged 12 and older with obesity in appropriate circumstances, alongside lifestyle intervention and medical supervision.

For women, the conversation becomes even more interesting around perimenopause and menopause, when declining oestrogen, changes in body composition,
insulin sensitivity and visceral fat can make weight management considerably harder.
GLP-1 therapy may be a useful tool for appropriately selected women — but it is not a treatment for menopause itself and should be considered as part of a broader menopause and metabolic-health plan.

So perhaps it’s time to replace the question “Why are you taking a GLP-1?” with “How can we help you achieve better long-term health?”
For me it’s Treat the problem early. Protect the future. Lose the stigma.
