Ever wondered what it actually feels like to karve through colour? 🌈

At our CraftCon SA workshop, you’ll get to explore the Karving Kanvas hands-on – learning different karving techniques, working with depth and texture, and seeing how each layer changes what you create.

You can keep things simple and graphic, or keep going and reveal more colour as your piece develops.

For the A5 workshop, you’ll personalise your piece with a stencil based on something you actually want to create.

For the A4 workshop, you’ll work through a guided Karve-by-Colour illustration and explore the layers in a more structured way.

I’ll be there throughout the session to guide you personally, explain the tools, answer questions and help you get comfortable with the process.

🎨 A4 Karve-by-Colour – choose a design and follow the colours hidden at different depths to bring it to life.

Blank Kanvas. Your idea. Your rules. ✨

Getting from a blank Karving Kanvas to something completely your own is simpler than you think:

1️⃣ Stencil or sketch your design
2️⃣ Karve – follow the lines, ignore them, experiment
3️⃣ Reveal the colours hidden beneath the surface
4️⃣ Clean it up and watch the artwork come together
5️⃣ Most importantly – have fun with it

You don’t need to remove every line. You don’t need to make it perfect. And you definitely don’t need to be an artist.

The beauty is in deciding what to reveal – and what to leave behind.

Two people can start with the same stencil and end with two completely different pieces. That’s the point.

Come spend an afternoon creating, experimenting and discovering just how much colour is hiding beneath the surface. 🌈

At our Karve-by-Colour workshop at CraftCon SA, you’ll get hands-on guidance from Shaun as you explore different karving techniques, learn how depth reveals different colours, experiment with tools and textures, and create a personalised stencil based on something you actually want to make.

This is not a paint-by-numbers kind of workshop.

It’s about learning the medium, asking questions, experimenting, and leaving with both a finished piece and the confidence to keep karving on your own.

I arrived hoping people would understand the idea. I left knowing they did. Felt so grateful for this opportunity at Decorex JHB 2026!

A meaningful moment as Ms Thulisile Manzini, Director-General of the Department of Small Business Development, experienced Karving first-hand.

There is no better way to understand Karvaura than to pick up the tool and begin.

People did not simply buy a design – they chose what they wanted to create.

That freedom to make the experience personal is exactly what Karving is about.

The stencilled Karving Kanvas sheets sold out before Day 4.

My wife made more after hours, and they kept disappearing. A very welcome problem to have.

One of the most rewarding parts of the show was watching parents slow down, sit together and create with their children.

Creativity became shared time.

I shared the Karving Kanvas with Teboho, my Decorex neighbour and fellow entrepreneur.

He took the idea and made it unmistakably his own. Love it!

Big events feel smaller when familiar faces appear.

It was good to reconnect with people from the creative community and see where their journeys have taken them.

Some conversations were brief. Others sparked ideas that may grow into something much bigger.

That is the quiet magic of showing up.

Between demonstrations, sales and conversations, I found a moment to karve something for myself.

A small reminder to pause inside the rush.

Some exhibitors could not leave their stands to collect the complimentary Gordon’s × BOS drinks.

So I brought the drinks to them.

A small gesture – but events are better when the people building them look out for one another.

Some things are better experienced than explained.

We love watching people try the Karving Kanvas for the first time because there’s always that moment of disbelief.

“This is actually very dope.” We like to think so too!
