Something truly incredible unfolds on retreat.
Before I plan a retreat, I contemplate what does the retreat feel like for me. A word or a phrase arrives. Then the theme develops from there. The rest is some kind of magic beyond my control. This can’t be planned or recreated. Each retreat becomes exactly what it needs to be for each person who shows up.

This was Wild Heart, Still Mind last month in the Tugela canyon - a return to our wild, sacred feminine. Stories around the fire. Calling back the memory of our uniquely wild selfs.

Next Sunday, 24 May I’ll be offering a rare opportunity: time for a long practice, without the need of going away on retreat.
What I love about hosting retreats and running teacher training, is the time we have to truly immerse ourselves in practice - to slow our practice down and spend 2 - 3 hours moving our body, yogic breathwork and still have enough time to give our nervous systems the proper rest it needs, and it all in the spirit of community, the sangha, coming together.

More time in practice does not by default mean it is a harder, more advanced practice, it simply means we can take our time to explore all the many facets that makes up our yoga practice, we can workshop and refine certain components, and in slowing down, really take our time to drop in, notice and feel what is beneath the surface.

This Extended Pratice is the first of its kind. I would naturally love for you to join the full arc of the morning, but I also know life is busy, and would love to offer you the option of simply joining for one of the events.

We so seldom leave our little bubbles where we are planted, so I would also love to encourage my community from all over Durban to join us in Westville too. Contrary to popular belief, roads do lead there, and you don’t need to bring your passport along ;-)

Some practices can’t be rushed. There are parts of your yoga practice that a one-hour class just can’t touch.
Extended Practice is an unrushed, immersive sadhana; three sessions, one continuous arc of practice. Not reserved for advanced practitioners, not exclusively for beginners. Simply practice, given the time and space it deserves.

Most weekly classes give us an hour. This morning offers the rare gift of an unhurried practice. Three sessions form one continuous arc: body, breath, rest. Come for one, or choose to stay for all three. Each session stands on its own, and together they become a full sadhana, a morning retreat.

Spending time on a more immersive practice doesn’t mean you have to be an advanced practitioner, and it does not mean the practice will be exponentially harder. It simply means we are taking time to build a solid foundation, taking time to notice and feel what is truly there beneath the surface.
