Wanna create a life you love?
Navigating your nervous system is step one.

This doesn’t mean being cool, calm and collected all the time. It means understanding that you were gifted a full spectrum of emotions and you’re meant to move in and out of all of them. Constantly.

That means experiencing anger (for 90 seconds) without getting stuck in rage. Or feeling sadness without succumbing to depression.

Ultimately, what you don’t feel gets stuck and that’s where the pain starts.

Nature reminds us that there is a rhythm to life. And sometimes the most productive thing we can do is step outside and reconnect with it.

Perimenopause didn’t make you irrational.
It made you honest.

Mother’s Day is a strange day for me, one of celebration and commiseration.

Motherhood didn’t come easily… infertility, miscarriages and heartbreak eventually led to adoption. So this day is always filled with both gratitude and grief.

I don’t share much about this journey because motherhood is never a story of one person. There is always an “other”, and the “other” isn’t my story to tell.

But what I can share is what mothering my son taught me:

Humility
No matter how much I try, I will fail sometimes. Those failures are wrapped in love and good intention, never malice, but they still hurt him and they hurt me.

Grace
I learnt to forgive myself for the mother I thought I’d be, for the ways I couldn’t help him and the way I wanted to.

Me
Somewhere in the chaos, fear and uncertainty, I found myself again. I learnt kindness toward myself. I remembered who I was.

Love
A love that is consuming, terrifying, beautiful and unlike anything I’d known before.

Shadows
Motherhood revealed the parts of myself I’d spent years hiding. And I learnt that those shadows were the portals, the metaphorical cracks that let the light in.

Mothering was a portal for me.

I surrendered.
I clung.
I failed.
I succeeded.
I laughed.
I cried.
I created a life I love.

Motherhood was the making of me and even on the hard days, I’m grateful I get to experience it.

I was the woman who had it all together.

Inside? Perimenopause had me questioning everything I thought I was. And I had no language for it, no map, and nobody around me who understood.

What I needed wasn’t more information.
I needed someone to sit with me, inside the mess, and help me find my way back to myself.

Those sessions helped me see the wood for the proverbial trees.
