Folic acid (the supplement form of folate) is one of the most important vitamins in early pregnancy—and even before conception 💙✨
This essential B-vitamin plays a key role in your baby’s earliest development.
🧠 Why it’s so important:
In the first few weeks of pregnancy, folic acid helps support the formation of your baby’s brain and spinal cord—known as the neural tube. This structure develops very early, often before you even know you’re pregnant.
💡 Adequate folic acid intake can help reduce the risk of neural tube defects and may also support healthy growth and development in the womb.
🤰 When should you start?
✔ Ideally, at least one month before conception
✔ Continue through the first trimester (first 3 months)
✔ As advised by your healthcare provider throughout pregnancy
🥗 Where else can you find folate?
Fresh foods like leafy greens, beans, citrus fruits, and fortified cereals naturally contain folate—but supplements help ensure you get enough during this critical stage.
💙 Did you know?
Because early pregnancy is such a sensitive time, folic acid is recommended even for women planning to conceive—not only those already pregnant.
📲 At Femland Private Medical Clinic, we guide you through the right supplements and antenatal care to support a healthy start for you and your baby.
👉 Book your antenatal visit today and start your pregnancy journey with the right care.

Getting ready for your baby’s arrival? Here’s your complete hospital bag checklist to make sure you’re fully prepared for the big day 👶✨
🧳 For Mom:
Pack lightweight, front-opening cotton pyjamas (one per day), comfortable slippers and socks, a gown, feeding bras, maternity pads, and all your essential toiletries. Don’t forget your hairdryer, brush, mirror, and a set of clothes for going home 👗✨
💊 Remember to include your chronic medication, pregnancy vitamins, important documents (ID copies for both parents), and a black pen for birth registration.
📱 Essentials like your phone, charger, adapter, and camera are also important (keep them safe at your own risk).
🍬 If you’re having a vaginal birth, pack some extra comfort items like energy sweets, lip balm, fruit juice, and even magazines or a book to help you relax during early labour 💆‍♀️
👶 For Baby:
Pack 5 sets of baby clothes (vest, babygro, wrapper/blanket, socks, beanie), one warm blanket, and a going-home outfit 🍼💙
If bottle feeding, you may bring your own bottles, formula, and sterilising equipment, although milk kitchens are available. A dummy and holder are optional.
💡 Pro Tip: Pack your hospital bag by 34–36 weeks so you’re ready anytime your baby decides to arrive 🤍
📲 Save this checklist & share it with an expecting mom who needs it!

Pregnancy is a time to take extra care of yourself and your baby 💙 and knowing what to avoid is just as important as knowing what to do.
During pregnancy, it’s important to avoid smoking and alcohol, as both can affect your baby’s growth and development. 🚭🍷 Even small amounts may increase risks, so it’s safest to stay away completely.
Be mindful of your food choices too 🍽️❌ Avoid raw or undercooked meat, deli meats, and unpasteurised dairy products, as they may carry harmful bacteria that can cause serious infections or complications. Always ensure food is properly cooked and dairy is pasteurised.
☕ Watch your caffeine intake as well—too much can affect sleep, hydration, and may impact baby’s development. Keep it within safe limits.
💡 Pregnancy isn’t about restriction—it’s about protection, awareness, and making informed choices for you and your baby.
At Femland Private Medical Clinic, we’re here to guide you through every step of your pregnancy journey with safe, supportive antenatal care 🤰💙
📲 Book your antenatal visit today and let’s care for you and your baby together.
