Should my kids be working with heavy weights?πŸ‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

There is generally controversy and differing opinions when it comes to children and heavy weight work. Is it dangerous?

Heavy work can be risky if it is not done in a controlled manner, or if the weight or activity is not appropriate to the children's age and ability. πŸ›‘

But, children can 100% do heavy work if it is done in a properly controlled environment and if the child understands the boundaries of working with weighted items (how to move safely). πŸ’ͺ

How to do heavy work?
1. Pushing
2. Pulling
3. Lifting
4. Carrying

Benefits of heavy work:
1. Proprioceptive input
2. Sensory regulation
3. Improved body awareness
4. Improved focus
5. Reducing behavioural outbursts
6. Reducing anxiety
7. Nervous system regulation
8. Musculoskeletal strengthening
9. Improves sleep quality
10. Calms the need to fidget/chew

You don't need kettlebells or dumbbells to be able to do heavy work with children. Here are some items commonly found at home that can be used for heavy work:

1. BooksπŸ“š
2. Filled up baskets🧺
3. Varying sizes of filled bottles🍼🧴
4. Sealed packets of rice 🍚
5. Plastic containers filled with water/sandπŸ’§
