A few weeks ago I had to basically trim this plant down right to the stem. It kept trying to make new leaves but then would just sacrifice another leaf, till I learnt that the pot that I had initially planted it in was too large and I was watering it unevenly. This poor plant was trying to grow but couldn’t because of its conditions. In the interim, I replanted it in a smaller pot and changed my watering technique and look at it grow now!

I’ve never had green fingers, but recently gardening has been teaching me so much about life. Sometimes during the hard times, we need to step back and reconsider whether our conditions (lifestyles, relationships other habits) are conducive to our growth. Maybe we need to trim back, get new perspective, or readjust our surroundings so that we can thrive. Living well doesn’t just happen on its own. It takes many intentional choices made every day.

Approximately 15% of South Africans 25 years and older have Type 2 diabetes, and many people walk around with insulin resistance and pre-diabetes for years without knowing it. Yesterday, I had to practice what I preach and take some of my own advice... REST! I’ve been dealing with calf issues, and instead of pushing through, I knew I needed to slow down. So while ran I walked. It’s funny how we readily take medication for granted but often overlook the power of rest. Yet, rest is crucial for muscle recovery, brain function, and mental health. Without it, we can’t regulate our emotions properly. It’s also key for boosting immunity, supporting hormones, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. I wish more people understood just how powerful rest really is! Taking things slower yesterday allowed me to savour the beauty around me and appreciate how much my dogs embrace just being outside!

One word - grateful… life is unpredictable, a bit chaotic and stressful…. often very stressful! BUT, life does give opportunities and we need to choose what we do with them…. I’m happy with the choices I made today. Chin up and on!
