Agricultural research has made commendable strides in generating crop improvement technologies, be it in seed systems, soil fertility management or plant protection technologies and currently many crop diseases no longer pose a major problem. However the impact of these various technologies observed at research or plot level have not translated to benefits to farmers at farm level. At farm level, small-scale farmers’ yields still remain very low gravitating around 1.3 ton/ ha against a yield potential of between 6-8 ton/ha. As 80% of Zambia’s food requirements are generated from this group of farmers, there is concern about the food security of the country. We therefore ask the question: Can the technologies generated by agricultural research, CGIAR centers and other research institutions commonly called ISFM help in closing the yield gap in small scale agriculture?

What are your thoughts about still using 'D' Compound and Urea by our farmers is it really helping them or destroying the soil per say cause the yield keep going down. so where is it that the farmer is losing it.
