POLIO: Still Preventable, Still a Threat

Polio spreads through contaminated water, food, or contact with f***s of an infected person. It can cause paralysis for life.

Environmental Health = Polio Prevention:
1. Vaccinate - Oral polio vaccine and IPV are the strongest protection
2. Clean water - Use safe drinking water only
3. Handwashing - Soap + water after toilet, before food
4. Safe toilets - Proper sewage disposal stops virus spread
5. No open defecation - Keeps water sources clean

A clean environment keeps polio away.
Vaccines + WASH = No more polio.

Report any sudden paralysis in children under 15 immediately.

🦠 EBOLA: How Environmental Health Keeps Us Safe

Ebola is not just a health issue. It’s an environmental health issue too.

How does the environment link to Ebola?

- Animal to human contact: Ebola often starts when humans handle infected wildlife like bats or primates. Deforestation and bushmeat hunting increase this risk.

- Poor sanitation: Lack of clean water and safe waste disposal helps viruses spread fast in communities.

- Burial practices: Unsafe handling of bodies can contaminate soil and water sources.

Protecting our forests and wildlife = protecting ourselves. When ecosystems are healthy, disease spillover drops.

What can we do?
1. *Avoid bushmeat* from unknown sources
2. *Wash hands* with soap and clean water always
3. *Keep surroundings clean* - dispose of waste properly
4. *Report sickness early* to health workers
5. *Support forest conservation* to reduce human-wildlife conflict

A clean environment is our first line of defense.

World Environment Day 🌍

Theme: "Inspired by nature. For climate. For the future."

Why this day matters.

1. Dirty water → Cholera.
2. Smoke from charcoal → Lung problems.
3. Dead animals not buried → Anthrax.
4. Plastic in drains → Mosquitoes → Malaria.

World Health Organisation (WHO) says a healthy environment could prevent nearly a quarter of all disease. That means your latrine, your rubbish pit, and your borehole matter as much as the clinic.

The environment won’t clean itself. But small actions by many people = big change.

What’s the biggest environmental health problem in your area right now? Drop it below and let’s solve it together.
