Thought provoking post.
My first job was as a buyer for a company called Clark Cotton later to become Cargill Cotton Ginneries.
My responsibilities were to market, sell company products directly to the famers on a hire purchase business model [loan] with a promise that the farmer would sell the produce [seed cotton] to the company thereby enabling us to recover our loan.
So I also bought the Cotton on behalf of the company. The pay was good because for a 19 year old, I got more than my father who was a Seniour Environmental Health Technician in the Ministry of Health at the time. Boy did I push those Shoprite trolleys with pride nikafola😄😄😄
My second Job was as a lead generator for the Barclays Bank Zambia. My duties were to find customer leads, market and sell company products to these beautiful people. I loved every bit of the job. Especially that we dressed smart and slayed😄😄
My pay was commission based but I also had a retainer and it was good at the end of it.
In between these two jobs, I took up journalism and teaching courses with the former laying dormant at the moment but still in my heart. The teaching job has taught me public speaking while the journalism course has shaped my writing skills.
At the moment I am using the skills learnt uku ku saidi to sell my products. They come in so handy that selling is like an inborn thing for me. I do not stress about it. I can sell you anything🤪
Do you see how God just plans out our lives without us knowing why we gravitate towards our affinities?
What skills did I pick up at these jobs? I learnt how to find prospects and sell products both physical and not phyiscal. I learnt SALES. They both trained me. The skills have stuck and are being utilised now in my own gig.
I will pose a question to you. What things are you doing in your current job? How can you marry those skills into improving your life? Into forging a business for yourself alongside your job?
Believe me, nothing we do is wastage. We are building up for the future. Your future depends on you. Therefore, hone your skills, polishing them and improve your life.
Today I sell with ease because I got prior experience and I am utilising what I learnt way back to sharpen my trade now.
Are you ready to push yourself based on what you are doing now? Have a blessed Saturday.
