Tuberculosis (TB), an infectious disease affecting millions of people worldwide, remains a serious but preventable and curable disease.
Treating TB requires more than just starting medication. It demands regular follow-up, a consistent supply of medicines, and uninterrupted care throughout the entire treatment period.
In 2025, MSF in Ethiopia treated over 800 TB/HIV patients. However, at our facility in Kule refugee camp, our outpatient department saw about a 65% increase in TB patients last year, a rise exacerbated by aid cuts affecting the region.
In 2026, our teams continue to see the same troubling pattern: patients arriving after their treatment follow-up was interrupted due to disruptions in the services they previously relied on.
On World Tuberculosis Day, we highlight the urgent need to ensure uninterrupted, quality healthcare across communities affected by TB.
