WHITE COAT CEREMONY - MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY
On Friday, 29th May 2026, the Biomedical Society of Zambia (BMZ) had the distinct honour of participating in the White Coat Ceremony for students of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Mulungushi University’s Parkview Campus.
The ceremony, held under the theme “Service Beyond the Coat,” marked a significant milestone for young men and women formally entering the health professions. Delivering the speech on behalf of the Biomedical Society of Zambia, the The Chairperson for the Research, Education and Training Committee (Madam Sharon Duba) extended warm congratulations to the students on behalf of the President and reminded them that the white coat is far more than a symbol of status. She emphasised that healthcare is a calling rooted in service, ethics, and humility, especially for laboratory professionals who often work behind the scenes.
Students were encouraged to:
- Combine knowledge with discipline, teamwork, and innovation.
- Treat classmates as future colleagues, not competitors.
- Recognise that healthcare is a team sport: no professional succeeds alone.
The BMSZ acknowledged the sacrifices of parents and guardians, stating that their investment contributes not only to their families but to the entire health system of Zambia. The university leadership and faculty were also commended for shaping the next generation of health professionals.
In closing, the students were urged to wear the coat with humility, discipline, and compassion and to remember that their service must always go beyond the coat.
